Funny enough I never had the urge to drive though Basingstoke shopping centre
. Seriously though It was there at the time when I decided to buy it for a good price (out of an Orange, Blue and a Green one, I went for the Green one, although apparently a few people seem to think that I'm a chav because of it! :cry
(but it is very good at cornering though!- fairly easy to turn)

Arrrrhhh! I friend of mine was working that night in Festival Place. Unfortunately i didn't A know him at the time, and B, Even more frustratingly was travelling back on the 01:05 That night, needed to head via a cash point but decided on the Tesco Express on the way home rather than visiting the then Natwest in Festival Place! I did hear some revving & squealing of car tires that night though! :-x
I'm not driving just yet, although i know what i'm looking for already - a nice pre 1973 Volkswagen Beetle. Road Tax Free, Cheap to run, lovely to work on (i've restored a 72 Bug & a Late split with a friend of mine already) and insure it under Classic Car Insurance, simple. However, pending various future jobs, i'd either be looking at one of those Ford Fiestas, or the new Volkswagen Polo / Scirrocco. If money wasn't much of an object, i'd take the road legal version of the WRC Polo.
Still, you could always team with the Royal Marines during a beach landing exercise on Instow beach

My best mates dad has a Lime green RS4 with one of them dead loud glasspack ones. Always enjoy going in it. Everyone looks when it accelerates dead loud. He got it and did it up himself, if anybody knows the car mod shop up in the Bromborough retail park it's him who owns it

Having previously carried out work experiance at my local Volkswagen dealership, they are good cars to work on and very well built. And the new GTI is fantastic!
(If it's not obvious enough, im quite a Volkswagen nut

As to my cars, I have a 2002 VW Polo and a 2003 Ford Ka.
The Polo is what I'm actually driving just now. It's a 1.2 S 55 [AC], with 109k on the clock.
Being as it only had 54bhp when it was new, and since it weighs roughly the same as the moon, it's not exactly what you'd call fast. However, it's a half decent spec, and is a nice little car.
Despite the 109k, everything still feels tight, and it doesn't feel worn.
There are a few small dents and scratches on the outside, but I'm not bothered about that.
The Ka is currently SORNed and once I've got a wishbone replaced, will be getting sold.
It's a Ka Style, which just means you get painted bumpers and mirrors, and the better tape player. Currently has 63k on it.
I dunno, I'll be sad to see it go, as it is good fun to drive. But at the same time, it's been expensive, because I've had to replace quite a few big things on it (clutch, steering rack, most of the cooling system).

I have found the ka handles amazingly well round corners, probably due to the wheel per corner design.
My parents have one of the last mk1 Ka's registered sept 2008, i'm sure must have been one of the only cars in 2008 to still have a tape deck.
My parents despite being only 4 years old and used as a second car since May 2011 has 81k on it. flew through its mot with just a new brake bulb this September!

They do handle very well - you can really throw them about a bit on a quiet B road, and it's great fun.
Has it started to rust yet?
Mine eats bulbs. I've lost count of how many it's gone through in the 2 years I've had it.
theres eats bulbs, and My dad mentioned small amount of rust around the windscreen somewhere

It seems that rust is what kills off most Kas - particularly the sills, arches and around the filler cap.
Those areas are all good on theres!

Me and the missus have had three Golf GTi Mk4s, one Golf GTi Mk5, and one Golf R32 Mk5. Bar the GTi Mk5, every winter they went wrong. If it wasn't the MAF it was something else. Put us off having them, shame really

Im supprised about the Mk5 having problems, The Mk4 i have to admit not so (even though a friend of mine has it the other way round). Mind you, another friends Caddy dash light (DPF - DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER or EMISSIONS CONTROL LIGHT) tended to show up almost every other winter morning due to condensation in the atomasphere. Shame he's sold that on - For a small van, the Touran / Golf based Caddy was a brilliant van, shame that he's now (in my opinion) downgraded with some monster VW T4 Van (Not as good as a T5, Less comfortable, not as neater to look at).

The Mk4 Golf was the last of the properly solidly built VWs (Along with the 9n Polo, like mine 
). The Mk5 was around the time when they reduced the quality a bit to reduce costs.

I was looking into T4 camper comversions recently, as something for once the Ka has sold.
Though I've now changed track completely on that and I'm looking at a Mk1 MX5 once it's gone.

Went to Edinburgh Airport tonight in my 107 to collect a Hired Car for a trip up North for the weekend.
Imagine my suprise when Avis gave me an MG6 Magnette
I thought for a moment I had been selected for a "vintage car"
It's a bit "plasticky" but it drives well with good steering and the 1.8 Turbocharged Engine is not bad.
These cars must be rare as "hens teeth" as they have to be ordered and I believe collected at Longbridge. I have never seen one in England let alone in Scotland !!!
Would you believe it has satnav as standard but those tightwads at Avis have removed the "chip" much to my displeasure

If anyone remembers the Topgear episode where Jeremey & James went out to test various Chinese cars, you might then be familiar with the MG6s distant cousin, The Roewe 550.
Wikipedias quite interesting on this one - knowonder there so rare in this country then.

There's a Dealership through in Stirling, which has a few of them sitting outside.
I believe there is at least one in Edinburgh that's not a hire car, but I've only seen a couple on the roads since they were released.

Polo has it's winter shoes on.
Managed to change all four in under 35 minutes using the standard jack and wheel brace, which I'm quite pleased with.

That's a shame - the Mk 5 was a return to form for the GTi as a hot hatch. I've had no problems with the Mk 6 so far, and it feels better built than ever. Winter is coming though! Over here all VWs are made in the US or Mexico apart from the GTi, which was assembled in Wolfsburg. I find that reassuring.

Yep, it's quite rare to find a rust free KA any more.
I've seen 2002 cars with holes in the windscreen pillars....

I saw a 54 plate SportKa at auction a year or two back with quite a large rust patch on the n/s A pillar, rusty arches and a hole under the filler cap that was nearly big enough to get my fist through.

It is Talla reservoir in Tweedsmuir, borders, scotland.
Its very peacefull and in 8 miles between main roads your lucky to see another person.....
