I saw this post, and you may be correct that the tiny platforms are relatively new, but trains on the Prague Semmering have departed from this location for many decades until very recent years, and in this respect it was no different from many other multi-track stations in former Czechoslovakia and elsewhere.As I explained, the narrow platforms at Smichov North were newly built only a few years ago in the carriage sidings independent of the main station, so were not a legacy arrangement. But you are correct in respect of some of the other continental examples.
