What are the Pit Falls?

Hi Guys

First of all I apologise in advance if I am posting this in the wrong section.

I am having major problems with my PC that I MSTS on & after all in PC terms it an antique (almost 5 year old) , so I was thinking of Buying a NEW PC after Christmas in the Sales in Jan.
But It looks like I am going to be forced to buy it with Windows Vista , So I want comments & advice on setting up & running the following train Sim related programmes & the pit falls & stumbling blocks I should be aware off

MSTS ( I believe this is straight forward)
Route Ritter
Shape Viewer
Con Builder (full version)
Train Store
Kosmos.

Any advice tips or hints greatly appreciated

Got all the above running in Vista no problem apart from Kosmos - haven't tried reinstalling that yet, didn't have to mess about with administrator rights or anything like that. - only had it on here a couple of weeks but enjoying the experience.

I would suggest that you get the largest HD you can afford and put an XP partition on in dual boot configuration - A google search will bring up plenty of help in how to do it.

Is all the above on one separate hard disc - if so keep it there and add the HD in the new machine. Reinstall MSTS over the copy on that disc to create the registry entries, reinstall patches and bin and away you go, rather than go through the full rebuild process of the MSTS installation , that we know can take ages.

But Hate being forced to buy something that I don''t really like or Need XP is fine for all I want to do.

You can still get XP Home or Pro, approx £60-£75, depending on where you get it from.

Dont go for a turbocache graphics card they aint that good, and also if you are buying a pc that is future proof make sure the gfx card is dx10 compatable which is what msts 2 will be built on and around as far as i know only 8600 and 8800 are dx10 compatable.
