This is a genuine request for information from people within the industry, this is in no way an attempt to increase my ego!

I'm a 37 year old serving police officer of 11 years and am looking for a career change. Being a train driver has always appealed to me and I am seriously considering applying for trainee driver jobs.

My question is, at my stage and with my experience, would i have a chance or am I just deluding myself? Am I older than what train companies are looking, will my police experience count for anything? I also have a degree from many years ago but it is not in a related sector, any thoughts and advice would be much appreciated.

There are many many threads already answering these questions. Take your time to read through them. In short yes you stand as good a chance as any and age is not an issue!

Maybe we could combine all the Police Officer - Train Driver threads into one mega-thread.

I'm sure SWT policy is accepting trainee drivers up to the age of 56 or 58 (I can't recall which!)
Apply.

I heard from employees from different companies, that the best way is to get into the company (as a gateman or saleman or any possition, just to get to company) and then go step by step to the top - generally it may takes up to 3 years to do it in company.

I'm saying just in case of being unlucky with straight Trainee TD offers.
