There has been alot of chatter about the top speed of HS2, but what about the acceleration?
My proposal is for a maximum acceleration of 1m/s^2, and a power/weight ratio of 50w/kg. Here is my reasoning:
I have made a spreadsheet to calculate the time savings/costs of different performance, and found that my proposal loses 54s from a standing start, compared to instantly reaching 360km/h. Bear in mind that this is doubled when also considering slowing down. This is compared to 150s (x2) for the Javelin, if they had a higher top speed.

- The Elizabeth Line has an acceleration of 1m/s^2, which feels somewhat strong (compared to DMUs for example), but in no way overbearing, unlike the Victoria Line.
- The power I have proposed is far in excess of anything currently on the UK rail network, however, it would enable the maximum acceleration to be achieved up to 50 m/s, half of the top speed. With the advances in modern EVs, motors in excess of 10,000 w/kg are in use, meaning that a 40 tonne carriage would only need 200kg of motors. Especially as they won't need to carry around batteries, motors of this power are certainly technically viable.
