WH Smith at Liverpool Street station

I was at London Liverpool Street today and went into WH Smith

I observed the decor there seems to be very out of character of the rest of the station. For example gold edging at the ceiling, painted characters on the wall and so on

Is it part of the original station decor? Any ideas on the history of this?

Others will know more, but wasn't this space once part of the Abercorn Rooms extension of the Great Eastern Hotel?
