A question I have is, with zebra crossings and traffic lights, now present from recent photos I've seen, who has priority...trains, cars or pedestrians?

The line has been effectively closed for about fourteen or fifteen years. I think the last train to use it was a charter sometime in the 1990s. The main reason why it hasn't been lifted (or filled in) is that it's simply cheaper and easier to leave it unused in place.

However, were a train to use it (though I have heard that there are problems with the line that would prevent this) the train would take priority in my estimations.

You just couldn't use it with todays traffic and H&S standards plus the costs of policing any movement would be prohibitive I expect, not to mention how would one go about obtaining the route knowledge?

Well, that sucks. If the railtoured it again I'd be straight on the thing! Looks fascinating. The date on the last video says its 1999 that a 33 went down. Such a shame

The date seems about right.

I know how you feel, though it might just be possible if given the right celestial conditions that if someone was to stump up the cash and gain what I assume would be the now necessary road closures, a track survey/ repairs then it could be done I reckon - but I wouldn't be the train set on it.

Here's a picture I took during the Olympics, it does appear that the grass gets cut occasionally at least.

I recently posted in another thread about the line. Like I said in the certain post, Weymouth is way to busy for a big train to run through it, cars everywhere and tourists, there is also the potential that a small child could run over to it and get run over as the driver is significantly higher. So not much chance of it running unfortunately.

Back in the mid 1980's l worked as as a manager for the Co Op in Weymouth which looked out onto the Tramway. I trained my checkout operators to press 5 bells when a train was on the tramway so that l could rush out and see it.There also use to be a trawler race day and a mixture of drunks and a train along the tramway was interesting to watch. l think the last train to attempt the tramway was a Parry's People Mover but it failed due to track conditions

The date of the video was 29th Dec 1994.

The last time something went along the quay was 1st May 1999. Pathfinder ran 2 trips starting and terminating at Yeovil Junction. 73106 & 73138 Went along the branch top & tail with 37250 providing additional power between Yeovil & Weymouth. I did the afternoon trip.

Perhaps one of the few routes you could get route knowledge on a bicycle

I think the best bit is bumping all the illegal parked cars. Can you imagine the litigation now if a cars panels were dented, not to mention doing a risk assessment on manual handling the cars

Something quirky about trains running down the road in the UK. The Upwell tramways always fascinated me from the few pictures that survive of it in action still goes on of course elsewhere such as Bangkok

The car owners can litigate as much as they want. There's clearly signs and markings which say keep clear so if cars were damaged as a result of ignoring those signs and markings then the owners should take responsibility for their actions and any judge with an ounce of common sense will agree.

You do not have the services of an engine or train, get yourself down and walk the line to road learn Weymouth Harbour would be a great road learn in the summer months, cos there is not much to it.
Drag the train in, hook off RR the coaches if any, hook on at the other end, brake test and off you go.

I recently converted some of my slides to digital, including some of the Weymouth tramway from the mid 80's. I remember that as fast as parked cars were cleared, along came another "Oh look a parking space" One driver claimed he was entitled to park there, as he had a disabled badge.

when living up north, I used to visit the Blackpool trams regularly, one often saw drivers in Fleetwood "give way" to a tram while astride the rails

Trains have right of way, but regarding level crossings, especially ungated ones, its remarkable how many car drivers argue right of way
