Would have loved to have done that...if it wasnt for the lure of the London Double Header / 1st guinness premiership matches of the season...Except thanks to the tickets not arriving in the post yesterday i missed that aswell!!!
= is not a happy person...

Oh well...lets hope the same happens next year anyhow...

Fantastic day out was had yesterday, just a shame about the dreadfully boring 5 hours in Weymouth. By 1445 we gave up and did a leap to Upwey and back!

Got no phots to plug as I forgot my camera, got some recordings on my dictation machine thankfully.

Top marks to all involved in yesterday's run, a damn fine way to celebrate the last of the loco-hauled workings to Weymouth!

Would have loved to have done that journey yesterday. But I had allready made other plans, the 37 and 33 Marylebone to Quainton Road mini-tour. If I knew before that the 37's were doing Weymouth yesterday, I would have done that instead. But no one knew about it till a week or so before anyway, so never mind.

What's this about "the last of the loco hauled to Weymouth"? The last this Summer yes. But not the last EVER?

Ah that is a shame then, to us rail enthusiasts at least. DMU's just aren't half as good as loco hauled.

Never say never though. 37's returned to Weymouth back in Summer '98 and '99. We thought that might be the last of the Weymouth loco hauls. But a few years after that it was 31's that were used on the Summer Saturday additionals.

Incidentally what's happened to the Wessex liveried 31's and mk2's?

Well at least one of the MK2s in the current set used to be in use with Wessex.

Both 37's are currently on there way to Warrington light engine.
I managed to film them passing Cheltenham at about 15:00 and the video is now on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUMLnirDBUc&fmt=18 ( there is also a vid of the red one going down to Brisol)
They are due at Crewe at about half five and Warrington an hour later if anyone is interested.

Well at least one of the MK2s in the current set used to be in use with Wessex.

You can still see the pink paint when you look through the windows. Used to be the TSO next to loco, but I think it's changed.

Having done the full return trip on Saturday i most say it was brilliant. This was my first time behind a 37 and i met some good people during the trip. I think that things like this should occur more often as it is a win-win situation for both enthusiasts and the TOC (First Great Western on this case) as we were all happy and the TOC makes a profit and sells tickets that it usually wouldn't sell.

Never Say Never! As FGW planned to use DMU's on the Weymouth Bristols this year and look what happend, And at least the Cardiff - Taunton service is to continue with Loco Haulige for the forseable future...As is First Scotrails Fife Circle services...

As for the ex Wessex Mk2's...Well they seem to have sadly got everywhere now, with Cargo D buying up some of them, Some of the Intercity liveried ones seem to have gone to Rivera as i had a ex wessex/intercity on the Llandudno Victorian extravaganza this year...

Very good site here which might help...As for the 31's, well most of them are now in other liveries, though there was only ever 1 class 31601 painted in Wessex Pink which seems to have changed names over the years like FGW has changed liveries! But most of the Ex Fragonset 31's are now either owned by RVEL and now working NR test trains...Whereas 31454 was painted into INTERCITY Mainline livery by Fragonset and spent most of its time working with the Intercity Mk2's on the Wessex Services...

Certainly looks like it was a good day though...And now i pretty much wish i came to Weymouth instead...My match tickets didnt turn up much to my annoyance and so i spent satuday doing very little...

Just viewed a few videos of this working on the net, considering people moan there should be more TOC's doing such things you would think they could behave themselves when they do, a few videos showed flailing blatently going on, with 37's working this surely it would be one NR would watch closely to see how it went. 37670 also not sounding brilliant, popping quite a bit in what i have just watched.

Was a great day out - nice to have some 'rea'l traction!

There were about 140 more passengers on board compared to the normal skip runs, although whether FGW made any money out of it is debatable with the large number of 'staff' travelling. Nevertheless, FGW should be commended for running it. Wouldn't it be wonderful if something like this happened a bit more often.

I think neally 99% of passengers on this were railway enthusiasts, as for fgw making money i think they did, although i fealt sorry for the the conductor as she had to amke her way through a extremely crowded train she didnt reach the rear carriage which i was glad i was in til just near castel cary.

Sorry if that last post i made came across a little sarcastic, was not meant to be, I was just saying that from the video I could not see who it was whereas from being there you knew who it was.
