Westcliff to Kingston

I'm planning a trip that involves taking the route from Westcliff (Southend) to Kingston (Upon Thames) I plan on leaving Westcliff at 22:10pm on a weekday.

Now google says I should be able to do the following (Which I can't see any issue with)

Leave Westcliff at 22:38 on a C2C train to West Ham
Arrive at West Ham at 23:21 and transfer to the Jubilee Line
Get the 23:29 Jubilee Line service to Waterloo
Arrive at Waterloo at 23:44 and transfer to the Main line station
Get the 23:57 SWR train to Kingston arriving at 00:25

BUT no train ticket website lets me book this specific trip is there any reason why?

EDIT: Unless it won't allow less than 10 minute transfer time at West Ham?

The problem is that between West Ham and Waterloo you need to allow quite a bit more time. The interchange time at West Ham is 5 minutes and the fixed link to Waterloo is 34 minutes at that time of day, and then Waterloo has an interchange time of 15 minutes. So you need a total of 54 minutes between your main line trains.

It may well be possible but you wouldn't have any protection against missed connections or any right to compensation for delays.

A rail industry journey planner will show that you need to leave Westcliff on the 22.08 train to make the connections to that train to Kingston. Many of us here do find that the minimum interchange times are usually too generous across London but you can't have protection and times that are too short for many people.

Google Maps tells you the trains it thinks you can take in practice. But it is not an official planning tool for the rail industry - it does not use the Routeing Guide to determine valid routes, nor does it apply the official minimum connection times. So it can only be used as a guide.

If you want protection in the event of disruption (particularly in view of it being late in the evening) you will need to leave Westcliff earlier at 22:08.

As there is an 0012 to Kingston (and Strawberry Hill) you should be pretty safe in practice, but even that is a substandard connection so the point about protection still applies.

Yeah at least there are alternatives. I don't even get why TFL planner doesn't show proper connection times?

Or even proper routes - tonight it thinks the 2238 is diverted via Stratford

I suspect it is using the standard 5min at West Ham and the actual JL timetable, but it should still be 15min not 12 at Waterloo. Seems as if Google is copying those, which is not unreasonable.

It is really diverted via Stratford according to National Rail Enquiries.

You are correct as of 2127 tonight. RTT didnt display that earlier, though obviously TfL knew. .

Yes, it appears in the TfL planner.
