Westbury to Doncaster

I have an off peak return booked for the above journey.

I am a bit confused about which route(s) the ticket would be valid on.

e.g.. Westbury - Bristol -- Birmingham - Doncaster

Or Westbury - Swindon- Gloucester - Birmigham - Doncaster

Or Westbury - Reading - Birmingham - Doncaster

0r Westbury - Paddington -Tube - Kings Cross - Doncaster

It depends on the route of the fare you hold. You refer to an Off-Peak Return - LNER (who price the "+Any Permitted" route of fare for this journey) removed most of the return tickets they price, including those for this journey. Therefore, unless you bought your Off-Peak Return before this change was enacted (in early June), I presume you must hold a ticket routed "not via London"?

Out of the routes you have listed, the "not via London" routed fare is mapped, and thus valid via:

• Westbury - Bristol -- Birmingham - Doncaster
• Westbury - Reading - Birmingham - Doncaster

(amongst other similar routes)

The route via Westbury - Swindon- Gloucester - Birmigham - Doncaster is not mapped, but it is within 3 miles of the shortest route and is thus also permitted.

The route Westbury - Paddington -Tube - Kings Cross - Doncaster would be permitted if you held the "+Any Permitted" fare, and you could pay the excess to this route of fare if you wanted to travel this way. However, with LNER's abolition of return fares on this journey, it's difficult to identify how the excess fare should be calculated and it's possible that this calculation might be done in a way that's unfavourable to you.

Thank you for both replies. They make things much clearer.
There is no + symbol so clearly it is not valid via London.
There is a 2V restriction which I think means it is not valid before 0930 Monday to Friday. Otherwise any of the 3 other routes I listed is it appears possible.

When you say a route is 'mapped' is there a website which shows this possible route mapping?

I imagine this ticket says on it "not via London" since that is the only off peak return offered on this route so that clears that up.

There are instructions on how to use it, but for this journey (which is pretty simple), you go in the yellow pages (section C) and look up westbury group to Doncaster, which then gives you maps BW+BH, RH and LONDON. The London route is not valid because the ticket is routed "not via London", so then you go to the maps section D and look up the maps BW, BH and RH to see the permitted routes (one permitted route is to travel along the paths in BW and then along the paths in BH, and the other permitted route is to travel along the paths in RH. As mentioned above, via Swindon and Kemble is not shown in either of these maps but is valid due to the shortest route rule, but it is not mapped on the website

A little off topic but an unintended consequence of the LNER single leg pricing fiasco/improvement (whichever way you see it) is that there are +ANY PERMITTED singles but no way now to excess to go via London if say there's engineering work at say Derby.
