As usual for these type of meets, there were several no-shows, with 2 of them admitting they had only just got out of bed at the meet time!
My group (Ascot, Fishnchipsrule and myself) did the Airedale & Wharfedale electric lines first. I think it's common knowledge that these lines have to be done (most of the stations at least, if not all) at some point as both the stations and trains are more frequent than any other lines in the area.
After that, we got a 321 to South Elmsall. It wasn't a surprise to see Christheref's group on this train. This group told us that they had seen Max & Mojo at Leeds just moments earlier. Predictably, a race to Moorthorpe then took place.
I had already looked into the bus timetable and noticed two oddities: firstly, the bus was due to terminate after it was due to go back out, with the journey from Moorthorpe taking nearly 3 times as long as to Moorthorpe, so I concluded that the timetable had plenty of slack going east. We asked the driver if we'd make the train and he said he was leaving "in a couple of minutes" and therefore we'd make it. It wasn't due to leave for another 5! After picking many passengers up the bus arrived on time at Moorthorpe, so I can see why he left early! So don't believe timetables! The other group had decided to run but they got this bus for the last 100 metres!
At Baghill we had another race to Monkhill. Everyone made the 10 minute connection. Fishnchipsrule's attempt to fool Christheref into thinking a shortcut was actually the wrong way backfired.
At Leeds the groups went their seperate ways, with us missing the Huddersfield train despite having about 5 minutes slack on top of a +2 and the leap from 17A to 16A being as close as you can get for Leeds. It didn't matter though as we were able to get the following TPE service and made our connection by 5 minutes.
Fortunately our final move, an East Garforth leap worked well and we achieved 41 stations in 6 and a quarter hours.
I believe Christheref's group came 2nd with 40 stations, and the other groups had approx 33-34 stations each but I can't remember now.
After the event we had a meal in Leeds, which theblackwatch and yorksrob joined Max, Mojo, Ascot, John @ home and myself for while the others went their seperate ways.
I wouldn't normally go bashing units in West Yorkshire but as part of a challenge with a meal at the end it's a good event and I would recommend the next one to anyone who missed it this time. I'd say it is better than the Tube Challenge as there is more skill involved in planning a route, and with less frequent trains you are far more likely to bump into others taking part which adds to the interest.
