Do National Express charge their booking fee on that?

Yes, if you book it on line but I go to my local Tourist Information Office and there's no booking fee!

I regularly buy my Rochdale to Manchester singles for 80p from a National Express vending machine at Victoria, Gatwick or Manchester. Indeed I would never buy a National Express ticket other than a Funfare anywhere other than a National Express machine or ticket office or agency to avoid the £1 booking fee.

Ah, there isn't one at Bradford as far as I know.

I used to book on-line to avoid the booking fee but I dn't travel by NX very often these days...

Any more? I didn't realise agencies ever charged. I don't tend to use agencies as the machines at Gatwick and VCS are convenient for me but I did use the TfGM Travelshop in Oldham in the last year and managed to get my 80p ticket for 80p. There used to be an agency in Woking library which I used a few years ago and there was no fee then.

Doesn't the Metro office in Bradford Interchange sell NX tickets?

You could travel on it (or any other First service in West Yorkshire) all day off-peak for £3.90.

The £3.90 off peak ticket is within the Leeds boundary only (£3.70 inside Bradford boundary). If you want to cross city boundaries and go anywhere in w.yorks you would have to buy the £4.60 West Yorks First day ticket.

Leeds has a kind of zonal system:

• £1.10 for four stops
• £2.10 within the inner city area ("Green Zone") or for shortish journeys outside it
• £2.80 for most tickets outside the inner city area (£2.50 off peak), which is the fare that the OP was complaining about for almost ten miles

Seems a lot simpler than most cities in the UK and seems to have caused more complaints than most, especially those travelling five stops who's journey costs a quid more than those travelling four stops.

But then, that's simplification for you.

It may well be more simple than most UK cities but its open to debate how simple it is. For a start that is 4 fares not 3 as they try to make out. Ohh and if you cross the green zone but are only travelling 8 stops its still only £2.10 as that is considered 2 short hops .
When they originally launched this simple fare structure they claimed only journeys that crossed the green zone would charged at the top fare, but when I made a journey from Kirkstall Abbey to Yeadon (a journey 100% outside the green zone) I was still charged £2.50, the driver said this was because it was a long journey :roll:. They have since made a change on the website, stating that only journeys of an intermediate length outside the green zone are £2.10 (what that length is would be anyones guess).
The only way to have a simple fare structure is to have one flat single fare and one day ticket, anytime of the day, for Leeds £2.20 and £4.00 would seem fair to me.

So it is- it's been a while since I got one of the First-only tickets. I'm being reminded why. They used to be rather better in being valid in Greater Manchester too (though oddly never in North Yorkshire) - and that was when there were 5 First routes which crossed that border (now down to 3).

Then there's other fares - try getting the X84 Leeds to Skipton and you'll be paying more than £2.80 - not covered by any sort of pass either (except ENTCS).

I'm glad Keighley and District allow travel over the border - their max single fare is £3.00 and an off-peak day ticket is £3.60 but both do include travel over the border into North Yorkshire on the 66/66A and some distance into Lancashire on Burnley and Pendle's 25 - and rather randomly Skipton - Barnoldswick on the 28 despite that not entering West Yorkshire.

Shame when they took over the contract for Sunday Skipton - Ilkley service they made it a premium service that their normal tickets aren't valid on.

It does. I've never used it though. I used to travel from Halifax, Leeds and Wakefield regularly. I could get to Leeds or Wakefield more easily than travelling to Bradford and then connecting to Leeds or Wakefield from there (though the bus service from Halifax to/from Wakefield has withered somewhat, now being only hourly and giving up rather earlier than it used to).

Yes I forgot about that, and then there is the £1 uni to Headingley fare, so that 6 different single fares now, simple!
