They are relaying the track either side of the level crossing. The level crossing is due to be upgraded, due to increased traffic flows, later the year.

Thank you, Sh. Both sides of the crossing you say? I know there's "a bit of a dip" on the station side. And the crossing itself later in the year - that'll be after the season, then, because it will bring road and rail traffic to a stop. I'm surprised how busy the road is - but then I'm surprised how busy my local street is - it's the universal uncontrollable rise in motor car ownership. Where will it end?

In this case the busy road is not just the 'uncontrollable rise in motor car ownership', but rather that it was always going to be busy - it was a new road constructed to access the beach and Butlins so as to relieve traffic in the centre of Minehead - effectively a bypass.

The crossing is being upgraded to full barriers and recontrolled so the number of moves requiring to go over and in again are reduced. It will remove the automatic operation of the crossing by treadle in the Up direction.

The track was relaid on the station side last winter, the up side is being done this winter.
