My daughter is considering a University course in Birmingham, near to Five Ways station; this will involve a daily commute by train from Hinckley (Leics).
Now - I've looked at travel options and I think I've worked it out - but it doesn't make much sense to me!
As far as I can see, an 'Out of County nTrain' from Hinckley is £151.70 a month (Direct Debit), and gives unlimited anytime rail travel within the West Midlands network and also covers the line from Hinckley to the boundary.
But a one-month Season seems to be £233.60, allowing unlimited train travel to and from Five Ways (and points in between) ONLY.
[EDIT to add:] Is it really the case that a ticket that offers less can cost over 50% more?
Is this just a PTE quirk? Am I missing something?
Does the nTrain allow break of journey on the out-of-county section? (e.g. she might want to get a train for the 6-minute journey to Nuneaton).
I'm comparing monthlies to make it like-for-like; being a student she might only want a term-time ticket, but that doesn't save much (there's a student ticket but it includes buses and doesn't seem to cover Hinckley).
The nTrain price is much less than she expected but are there any other tips - e.g. a park and ride at the west mids boundary? She has a small motorbike so that might be an option - though it's more likely she'll get rid of it and use the train as it's so convenient for her - she can walk to the local station.
