Only 10 ADL deckers and 1 omnideck(loaned in) in Livingston depot (BBT apart) now after movement of vehicles that saw 15 streetlites from Bristol and Glasgow enter service ,No Volvo Gemini vehicles in Livingston now. Most routes are now Single decker ,good move on the efficiency front.

Agree, no point running deckers when the duties can be covered by far more efficient singles. Not to mention Glasgow passengers on the 60 are now benefiting from newer/better buses.

X38! Here we, here we go...

Not hugely surprised by the X17 being cut back, it was never exactly busy when I saw it in Edinburgh. Seems like they've gone with the suggestion of many on here to cut the EX1 and boost the X18.

I’m sure with usual VOSA registrations there’s one or two things slightly wrong, I’d be surprised if X18 was cut back to Armadale for example.

X27 I’m assuming will run through Birniehill and J4 Distribution centre

So to summarise....
  • EX1 Withdrawn: No shock here at all, good move that we all wanted and could see coming.
  • EX2 Extended to St Andrews Square: Another good move that will certainly help the service long term.
  • X17 cut to operate Livi to Fauldhouse: No shock here either, surely they'd be better withdrawing the service and increasing the 281.
  • X18 possible increase to a 20 minute frequency?
  • X27 rerouted via Blackburn to Whitburn? (Replacing 275): Very good move, Blackburn finally has a Edinburgh link!
  • X38: New route to compete with the First 38, good move however it could risk creating another EX1/X18 situation where the routes (EX2 & X38) end up competing with each other rather than complimenting each other.
  • 275: Cut to operate Livi - Edinburgh Park: Not much of a surprise
  • 280/281/287: Timetable changes to accommodate the changes to the X17/X27.

X27 I’m assuming will run through Birniehill and J4 Distribution centre

It looks like the X27 will follow the current route of the 275 west of Livingston.

Ex1 failure (wonder what city link will make of that)
X17 failure
281 and 287 failure

280 and X18 only 2 really having any real success around Livingston
If X27 is being rerouted to that extent in West Lothian it shows the lack of interest from Bathgate and Livingston to Edinburgh

Surprised if the 275 comes out of Whitburn side serious blow to x27 / X28

It looks like the X27 will follow the current route of the 275 west of Livingston.
Never thought about that one. Certainly seems a good idea, I’m guessing with all the double decks freed up from the X17 will allow the X27/X28 to be doubled to every 15 minutes (thus the withdrawn X27 section still has the 30 min frequency from the X28).

X18 increasing is inevitable if 29, X17 and EX1 all went, I think every 15 minutes could happen but every 20 is more likely. I wonder if Wester Inch will be served again following the feedback.

Scaling back the 275 is fine by me, any route could cover the other section (in this case X27).

280 seems to be picking up the bit at Carmondean that the 281 did and I agree why keep the X17 number when it’s not express at all (unless they have future plans for it).

287 I’m guessing is just a revised timetable.

X38 is a bit of a wait and see, This is where the 04 plates will be going I’m guessing

The obvious thing to the EX2 has been done.

43/X43 revised timetable as well I’m guessing.

As far as a retaliation goes from first with the 38 I can’t see first able to do anything. It will depend on the timings of the x38 .fares too I guess .

First make very little in Linlithgow and Winchburgh and considering EX2 is doing linlithgow now it is really only winchburgh so that's no real big issue in real terms

Looks more likely the resources saved from the X17 will go on to the new X38.

X18 increasing is inevitable if 29, X17 and EX1 all went, I think every 15 minutes could happen but every 20 is more likely. I wonder if Wester Inch will be served again following the feedback.

Increasing from a 30 to 15 minute frequency is too big of a jump, but a 20 minute frequency certainly could seem viable.

Scaling back the 275 is fine by me, any route could cover the other section (in this case X27).

Replacing that section of the 275 with the X27 is a good because it means the X27 will now serve areas with no link to Edinburgh and no nearby Train service, this is a win win.

287 I’m guessing is just a revised timetable.

I'd assume it's just revised to account for the X27 replacing the 275.

X38 is a bit of a wait and see, This is where the 04 plates will be going I’m guessing.

I'd hope not, but you're probably right, the 04 plates are not really suitable.

As far as a retaliation goes from first with the 38 I can’t see first able to do anything. It will depend on the timings of the x38 .fares too I guess .

Agree, i wouldn't be surprised if First cut the 38 back to half hourly east of Linlithgow as they'll have no chance if the X38 is implemented well, the issue for Lothian is they'll have trouble going west of Linlithgow as it means going outside the Lothian Council region. So if First do cut the 38 it could lead to a poorer overall level of service.

The Changes to the Green arrow, now means there will be surplus of coaches... I wonder if the x17 will go up to every 20mins?

With the X27 be every 30mins? Has anyone noticed it going back to its original route. However if passengers STILL have to operate via Dedridge West and Craighills, then its a non starter for many passengers, and the 600 and Blue bus will keep people.

LCB are cutting back on the Livingston to Broxburn market, So First are managed to hold its own on that route it seems.

Don't worry about Ex2 competing with the X38, it wont. X38 is copy of the current First service and yet Ex2 still get passengers..

Just to clarify the X17 will still run to Edinburgh it’s just in split registration for some reasons

Someone somewhere within LCB must be looking at West Lothian and thinking "oh my god" what an absolute mess and money drain this is turning into.

No accounts ,moving x43 to try and put ££ Into the venture (that wont work) and avoiding allowing people to see actually how much has been pumped into this venture ,its not looking a clever plan right now after 14 months .
Surely it would have been a wiser move to just make an offer to First before starting all this and have free run at the whole area?

There is NO need for 15min service between Linlithgow and Edinburgh. If LCB were smart it would have extra service Edinburgh - Winchburgh - Broxburn - Livingston.

I'd agree with that idea tbh.
That why it could still provide 15min service to broxburn to livingston with X17. I wonder if the coaches could be used for Airport express? Im sure 3 could provide 30min service to Airport covering the Livingston town?

X27 is the most interesting change, I do think X27 and X28 are going to 30mins each.

Said it before it even began ,crazy idea ,never compete with the Bathgate rail line .

Fares were just the killer on the Bathgate end, £3 cheaper compared to Scotrail and increase travel time. Doesn't add up.

BIG Question will be around the X38 is the fares... First has mostly likely lost the Kirkliston passengers, However the Winchburgh passengers will put up more of fight., because said passengers will still be saving £30 a month if there stick with First.
