In the other Lothian thread at https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/lothian-buses-and-ecb-discussion.151391/ , a few days ago I wrote "This thread is increasingly becoming one where, every week, several members are using it to have personal attacks and make snide comments against each other. If this continues, appropriate action will be taken. Please use the forum nicely."

That was not an invitation to transfer the snide comments and bickering to this thread.

I agree, I’m tired of coming onto one of those forums and have it turn into a “my dads bigger than your dad” type of argument over something that doesn’t need to heated. it’s fine to disagree but don’t be a jerk about it, the fact that admin warnings had to come more than once is saying something

Indeed, every day it seems to be someone pointing out something negative with Lothian (a broken down bus, nobody using the new services etc etc), suggesting this minor thing is an example of bigger problems and then people arguing about it for the rest of the day

Yet when that happens to other compaines thats alright, yet not with Lothian?

So its alright to show off so called broke down on bright buses? Not lothian

Of course were going to report back on passenger numbers on bus war routes.

I think the point is that none of it is very helpful. Whether it's a BBT or Lothian (* delete as appropriate) vehicle broken down and then extrapolating that (perhaps unfairly) to highlight some partisan point doesn't really add much to the discussion.

More importantly, there are the personal comments towards certain people (e.g fanboy etc) that the mods are increasingly having to manage.

There are obviously views on either side and we should have the ability to have reasoned discussion without the moderators feeling that they have to intervene. Surely we all agree with that?

Absolutely, I feel less inclined to post on here with more heated arfuements, I don’t like being a peacekeeper in these scenarios but everyone’s entitled to their opinion, if your for First or Lothian it doesn’t matter, we all have our preferences, if the comments were obviously light hearted jabs then i doubt it would be that much of an issue but there’s no need to take it further beyond that!

To try and sway the topic back on track, the potential Phase 6, anyone else have any ideas what LCB might do?

That looks nasty! I sure hope no one was on that upper deck!

Was the sign missing telling the driver of the low bridge? I hope the driver is okay too given he has probably had a big shock.

The driver must have been going at some speed to take it clean off like that.

When was the last time First Scotland East had a bus lose its roof? Didn’t East Coast have one like that a couple of years back at the Western General.

I don’t mean this in a bad way but I think it'll be more fun waiting and seeing what will happen. The bosses have some interesting ideas that no-one on here would think of e.g. Green Arrow services. Some of these routes work, some don’t.

Another shot of it here on Edinburgh Live.

Unless Lothian & Wrightbus can find a spare roof for it, another potential Open Topper for someone?

Out of Intrest, I presume this was one of the former London vehicles?

Nasty but thankfully (as Radio Forth have reported) that there were no passengers on board. Out of service and off route?
Has to be off route for sure due to the low bridges (it's why X17 is single deck) so can only assume he was heading back to depot. That road however had signs up a good distance from the bridge saying of its height (well, did last time I went that way). It's a 12ft bridge...

iirc the buses also have an orange sticker on the dashboard warning them of the bridge

No yeah I absolutely get that, still you can’t help but ponder! But yeah mystery is more fun!

Turning up to the X17 terminus (Fauldhouse Railway Station) is immediately to the right before the bridge so driver has obviously missed the turning...

I don't see why you feel the need to post that. It's almost as if you're trying to point score.

We should just be lucky no one is hurt, i'm sure the driver will be dealt with in the correct manner.

If it does get a new roof it'll have to be a donated one. (Which given some early Gemini's are now being withdrawn shouldn't be too hard). Wright don't make or supply the roofs for the old Gemini's anymore.

It’s related to what I’ve said previously on this thread. The standard of LCB driving in my experience is very poor. Regularly speeding, pull out of stops without looking (I have personally experienced this a lot in the last year), unable to pull into stops without blocking half the road and seem to hit the kerbs a lot. This adds weight to my view that they seem to have very poor positional awareness.

The so called LCB drivers on here would probably state otherwise.

That aside all companies have good and bad. I doubt LCB's driving is any better or worse than First's, not to mention quite a chunk of the drivers at LCB are Ex-First and vise versa.

I only go by my experience. Since Lothian Country came out to West Lothian I have had a lot more near misses in the car than I ever have before and other family members have said the same.

Also going by the last few years of news reports it’s hard to find many examples of First accidents in Scotland while Lothian feature a fair bit. I’ve also been told by someone in the industry that Lothian as a whole allegedly have a higher rate of accidents than most companies.

Bus company A has 10 accidents in 2018. Company B had 22, Company C had 4. Company A 8 of those accidents were other vehicles hitting in to them, B was 21 hitting in to them and C had just 1 hit them. Who has a higher at fault rate? My point is, while you say Lothian has a higher rate of accidents, what are those accidents? How many driver fault? How many are minor incidents but had to be recorded as an accident? How many were other person fault 100%?

As for your first point, if you think there is alot of dangerous driving going on with LCB, maybe contact the company with your findings and let them know, or if you think the driving is of a dangerous nature, maybe speak with the police who can keep an eye out? I have no idea as I don't see their driving much in that area, but all bus drivers should be careful and curteous.

Need to also take in to account fleet size. It's not fair to compare the whole of Lothian with just FSE, as the latter is much smaller.
