Finally on Wessex, their drivers never turn their engines off when laying over in Weston. I've been in touch with Wessex but didn't even get a reply! Is there anything BANES can do about this?

It doesn't surprise me that they've ignored you. I've had cause to contact them about appalling driving standards on two occasions recently, including a driver driving down Milsom Street whilst playing on a mobile, and have received no response over a month later.

Two of Wessex's 51 branded deckers were out on Saturday. One actually on the 51 service and one on the X14 (which is supposed to have it's own branding!).

Now they don't run the 13 they've had to move on from blocking the bottom of Union Street and the stop outside Urban Outfitters.

If you're lucky you can find them parked along Broadweir half on/half off the kerb on double yellows all the way upto the traffic lights by the Galleries car park!

I notice that Stagecoach are changing 620/84/5/6 from 13/11.
Yes I saw this. Just TT changes by the looks of it so could be an attempt to clean up a couple of timing issues. Nothing on the websites of South Gloucestershire Council, TravelineSW or Stagecoach as yet though.

Just seen Wessex's BX 62 FNV on the M4 heading westbound near Chieveley? My only guess could be returning from RR duties in the Oxfordshire area?

Just out of interest why have you chosen this area of Bristol to be the one which deserves a Christmas Day bus service?

It's a commercial decision by my team. We chose this area for a Boxing Day service because it has been underserved in the past and it makes sense to do the same things both days to keep things simple.

The route will of course serve South Bristol Hospital where we expect there should be genuine demand from staff and visitors who might value this service.

How are you so sure that VOSA haven't been informed ?

I'm not, which is why that wasn’t what I said. Mostly the first that anybody hears about new/changed services is when the VOSA (Or DVSA or whatever they're called currently) website publishes the details (followed by several weeks of speculation about what it all means) so hearing about a new service before this has happened is unusual.

Hopefully DVSA will catch up this week and having a service that can cover staff shift times at hospitals is a very positive move (lots of hospital services fail to do this).

Bearing in mind that VOSA usually requires 56 days notice, it should be showing registered to an operator very soon.

*DVSA.

I appreciate a lot of people might not be aware of it, but registrations for Christmas week only need 21 days notice.

I'm not exactly "au fait" with the exact guidance but I'm not certain that a short notice registration is exactly permitted on that basis. After all, Christmas and Boxing Day isn't exactly an unforeseen occurrence ;)

I wasn't aware it was only 21 days, but my common sense said it would be less.

Thinking about the fact that Wessex have been running the 625 for Severnside for a few weeks, pending this weekend's official change of operator and route...

Regularly observing the 625 between Parkway and Southmead Hospital (i.e. the bit that is being withdrawn this weekend) it is clear that even without any publicity saying it is now a Wessex service, more people are using it.

Makes you wonder whether, if another operator than Severnside held the current contract would the route have fared better with fares (!) and not be about to be re-routed away from the Hospital.

The guidance on running services over the holiday period appears to be at the 21 days advance notice only applies to services already registered and is at the discretion of the TC.

Has more info.

I did wonder on that as I wasn't familiar. Still, with Phil S there, I trusted he knows best and, of course, an application may well have been made and may just be in the DVSA machinery.

Wonder why? More reliable?
