Travelling to penrith on Aug 5th but rmt overtime ban. Pal says it will be ok but I am not sure. Any thoughts

The railway runs heavilly on rest day working and overtime as it is cheaper to have drivers work more hours than hire a driver that might be stood around doing nothing in case someone is off. Overtime bans like this just mean there might not be enough drivers to cover all services.

Assuming you mean the upcoming ASLEF overtime ban.
During the most recent previous ban there appeared to be very little disruption to Avanti services certainly on the northern section of the WCML
