Had this the other day on VT pendo , got on at Preston with loads of empty seats just saying reserved , its better when its says its reserrved between a and b .

Sounds like a system fault. I use Pendos a lot and the reaservations normally say “Reserved from....” so you can use a seat until a particular station.

Personally I think the reservation system needs to be changed. Not a fan of the requirement for a reserved seat when booking an advance ticket. I also think that if you reserve a seat you should be required to sit in that seat. I find it an absolute pain at present.
How would a TOC ensure an individual was on the correct train without the reservation coupon?

Surely it wouldn't be beyond modern technology to put the time of a train on a ticket without a seat number

Many years ago i was in Spain and was on a RENFE DMU and there was no tickets for reservations yet everyone had a seat reservation on their ticket .

Some Scotrail advances dont have seat reservations but specify service , thats ok as long as im early at origin station .
