West Brompton

My daughter has just moved to SW5 and has been asking me about train services. I know the underground pretty well so can advise he about this, but I don't really know the surface railway very well in that part of London.

The TfL web site shows me what Lorol services there are from West Brompton, but I wondered if any other oprrators stop there, or at Keinsington Olympia (I guess the Manchester services disappeared long ago?), so that I can guide her regarding where she can travel to without changing train.

Southern run trains to Clapham Junction, West Croydon and also to Milton Keynes, serving Harrow & Wealdstone, Wembley & Watford Junction.

Trains also serve Sheperds Bush etc. you can also get London Overground services to Willesdon Junction i believe every 15 minutes with some peak hour trains running through to Stratford.

4 Trains an hour to Willesden Jct - 2 of which continue to Stratford via West Hampstead, Camden Road and Highbury and Islington

And then 1 Southern train an hour to Milton Keynes via Watford and South Croydon.

Thanks guys. So, avoiding the underground (if possible), what are the best connections to Bishops Stortford?

I can't immediately see any alternative to using the underground, between Highbury & Islington and Tottenham Hale.

Journey Planner i just had a quick look at suggested travelling to Clapham, change there for Vauxhall, then Victoria line to Tottenham Hale, then NXEA from there, but also suggests going direct to Highbury and Islington, Victoria line from there to Tottenham, then NXEA - which is probably easier.

Doesnt look as if you can avoid the tube im afraid

London Overground from West Brompton - Stratford, then NXEA to Bishops Stortford would probably be your best bet.

Well that would work but take absolutely ages! For someone with luggage or mobility issues I would recommend it but if you want a reasonable journey time I wouldn't.

Last time I made that connection at Stratford (NXEA to LO) it was cross platform, no steps.

West Brompton - Highbury on LO is 35 mins, then Vic line to Tott Hale then NXEA to Bishops Stort would be the quickest. There is a lift from the LO platforms to the "main concourse" at Highbury then there are escalators down to the Vic line.

It might be quicker but the OP did specify that he wished to avoid the Tube.
