8) The Wenselydale Railway are to host their first diesel gala in Spetember between the dates of Friday 19th and Sunday 21st. The Friday will see a night photo shoot with other events to be confirmed. Accross the weekend 03144 will be performing driver experience along the full length of the yard and headshunt. Recently restored 47715 will be the star of the show with a class 31, 'hoovers', a 'Deltic' as co-stars. Other locomotives are currently in negotiation but the weekend looks to be one to rememeber:?.

I think it's 007 Hercules! ;)

*I know it is called Sir Edward Elgar, but quite funny when the narrator of "Fifties past and present" video said "dubblo seven hercules" so quickly

Sounds very good to me! Is this the first time a Deltic has run on the Wensleydale?

Yes it is. The Deltic/31/50 will be calling in as a convoy on their way back south from a (private?) open day at Heaton the previous weekend.

That's right. The 'Deltic' may have some more 'friends' if negotiations pay off. The driver for a fiver will run the full lenght of Leeming headshunt

Although 50007 is a beast <D<D

Was when I had it at the Severn Valley a few years back, sounded great up foley park bank, nice to see it getting a trip out from the Midland rly Centre so it may be able to have a proper work out. Busy year for the CFA this year by the sounds of it.

That was the last time I had it, it did sound lovely. Last time I saw it was at the MRC, it was shunting some locos about. It looks the part aswell after it's repaint :)

Its a shame the track won't allow working at higher speed. But the station stops will give a bit of action and the bank at Preston-Under-Sacr is pretty good for clag & thrash!

Try Wensley level crossing at the platform side of the tracks whilst looking towards Leyburn. You can see down the slope and watch locos round the bend and climb the bank with plenty of horn for the crossing keeper. Just be warned that you can't go on the platform and there is a sign for the LC which is in the shot if a lot of people are ther. It's worth getting there early and there is parking at the other side of the crossing for a few cars. See the shot of 37248 climbing the bank in 2007 on charter. There is the option of a photo at the other side of the sign.

Just checked the diary and it doesn't look like I will be able to make it, doing the SVR Steam gala overnight Friday to be in position for the 40 tour to Kingswear, another overnight there saturday night and then probably off to the Mid Norfolk gala on the Sunday if they get a DRS 37 in like normal!

Especially ones which make the same humming sound while idling, moving at 25mph or moving at 100mph! ;)

I ain't bothered what noise they make, I don't like any type 5's, from U-Boats to sheds I don't rate any of them!

One day you will be made to agree grids are hell!
Can't say a 31/47/50/55 lineup is a great draw to me personally, the first three classes are those I'd be looking to avoid at any gala!!

Hope it is successful for the line regardless

I'm informed by said 87015 that Whizzo's are type 4's not 5's (never knew, so post edited accordingly!)

Only type 5s i really like are 56s i suppose! I don't mind class 57s, but anything else that is type 5 i don't do!

To get this back on topic, I hope the event does go well, but i don't think i'll be able to go there! At least 31108's gonna be there, but that's been out and about quite a lot in the last 2 years, so maybe 31271 should of been given the chance to visit a line OTHER than the NVR for a change!

47715 is a nice loco, with the right driver there is plenty of fun to be had behind it. As for the 31 it will be nice to have one that is operational on the line if only for a few days! The 50 will not really be able to put in a performance due to the state of the track which is a shame as 50007 is absolute hellfire when given decent track. As for 'Deltic' it is something new on the line as all the other classes have already operated there before. Please find attatched a shot of 47703 leaving Redmire and starting to climb the grade. Although it produces slightly more clag than '715 you get the idea. When 31188 started up for the final time it sounded like the world was ending especially when the engine was opened wide whilst stationary: who say 31s aren't good. As for '715 itself it was a solid performer on a ECS (5Z47) run the other week to Constable Burton and is a regular performer on 100+ tonne ballasts. The other photo is of '715 rolling into Constable Burton loop with the new liveried coach that will house the bar for the gala trains.

For those of you who hate 31s there will be a bit less junk at Leeming for the gala. 31166/188 are f*****g of to TJ Thompson thanks to Harry bloody Needle. They are currently stored at Leeming and 188 will be losing its power pack on site (very soon!). '166 is to be towed (that'l be flamin' interestin) with 47703 to their new 'homes'!
