A snippet of information for @Crun - the redundant headspan masts (for structure E127/14) north of the new OLE portal boom (E127/12A) near Cock Lane FB have now been removed. The same can also be said for the redundant headspan masts E128/02, E128/06 & E128/08; only the Up side mast for E128/04 remains as it still anchors the wire run using the crossover from the Down fast to the Down Spalding.

The 9-Day Blockade has now been confirmed as running from the 16th to the 24th of January 2021 (inclusive). Tunnel boring works are also finished - the tunnels are now being fitted out before the big push.

There will be more activity on the dive under or grade separation tomorrow with a crane lifting new bridge sections into place to form the base of the extension to the Lincoln Road bridge. This will enable the new pathway to pass through to join the Great Northern Great Eastern line to Spalding to the north of the Werrington district of Peterborough. The existing bridge will close from 8am to 6pm.

The occupants of the bungalow in question moved out to a hotel during a particular period of the project. It was surrounded early on by a newt trapping fence and then later by a tall wooden fence. Hopefully the mounds of earth will be removed by the end of the construction and the area landscaped.

During Lockdown one of the biggest engineering projects in the country has been taking place under Peterborough residents’ feet - and the Peterborough Telegraph was given exclusive access to the incredible works being undertaken.

Push-launch crossings are usually straight. However this one is curved which needs a structural guide, which is what the tunnels are needed for. TBMs would not be an appropriate technology in this case.

ECML will be lifted and then the line of the box will be excavated. The guide tunnels will then be opened down to guide rail level and the box jacked into place. The sides and top will then be infilled and the ECML relaid.

There’s a good explanation with sketches and photos if you follow the link in post #330 of this thread to a “New Civil Engineer” article.
Amongst other details they report that the “slot” in the embankment will only be excavated just ahead of the moving box section, 1.5 metres at a time, I expect that way they hope to minimise the effects on the retained embankment immediately outside of the box.
... because there isn't sufficient space to launch and receive a large TBM, from the article linked above. I got the impression this would have been preferred if it had been possible.
