Story on WalesOnline regarding how the Severn Bridge toll removal may affect rail traffic to the Wentloog Freghtliner site.

There are fears 700 extra lorries a week will clog up major routes in south Wales after the tolls on the Severn bridges are scrapped.

Experts fear that that freight will move away from rail service and onto the M4 when the tolls cease late next year.

Would the opposite not happen. Could it tip a balance and Boxes originating in Bristol might end up at Wentloog rather than the M4 / M5. Even if it's just Tesco. 20gbp per vehicle is not large saving but multiple vehicles over a year would add up.

I suppose it could be more economic for Tesco to add a few containers to the train they already run which goes to Wentloog, but that assumes that the train still exists and all the traffic for Wales hasn't switched to the road. If you don't have your own train you wouldn't take a container from Bristol to Wentloog to load on to a train, because it'd be going the wrong way and there's a Freightliner terminal at Bristol.
