I have a few questions about the Wensleydale Railway's coaching stock; not sure if anyone will be able to help but it's worth a try!
First of all, how many Mk2s do they actually have? I know there are 6 which are currently on the mainline for GBRf Crew Training but I was under the impression that they had some stored awaiting attention too.
I understand that when time & money permits, they will be repainting the coaches from their current, attractive red and cream livery, and that a new livery has already been decided on. Does anyone have any idea what the new livery is?
The obvious suggestions would be one of the BR liveries mk2s wore - blue/grey, regional railways or IC - but to my mind these would look out of place on a railway which runs through such rural countryside. Not only that, but the coaches in their current guise have carried the WR's name on their sides for many years, which is basically free advertising for them - in any photo, you immediately know which railway it is. To change that would seem silly to me.
The WR also have two grounded MK2 coach bodies which are in use for various purposes (one's a station buffet?), painted green and cream. Are there any plans for these to ever be restored to running condition again?
