This statement was released yesterday by one of the gala organisers:
It is with great regret that I have to say that the upcoming First Gala at the WR is going to be scaled down dramatically.
As reported on the DPS website we have had problems with logistics moving locomotives. One problem is we have been let down badly getting our paths on the network by an operator. However the greater problem is more an act of god, the recent appauling weather caused the river Swale to flash flood and the viaduct over the river on our connection to the ECML needs to be inspected before any trains pass over it. It had been hoped to inspect the bridge before the deadline for paths came and went but the river level is still too high. Therefore following lengthy discussions withe the DPS and others we have had to postpone the visit of 55019 and probably 31108. This decision was not taken lightly as a great deal of work and money has gone into organising this event and we were hoping to enter the annual gala scene with a bang.
However we do still have 47715 and 47703 hauling trains as per the gala timetable and the beer-ex will run as planned.
The DMU will operate on the freight only section (Reduced mileage if bridge still closed)
03144 will be available on driver experience in the yard/headshunt for £5
Fridays DMU drags were to be hauled by 31108 but unless a miracle happens we will possibly use one 47 for the drags if there is sufficient interest, please email info@dieselgala.co.uk to tell us if you are likely to attend on Friday 19th.
The Friday evening photo shoot will not not have as much content as hoped so for £5 you will now get the following, Travel on the DMU from Leyburn down to Leeming Bar in the evening for those choosing to camp at Leyburn, A trip down the freight only section hauled by 03144, access to the yard to photograph the 47's/DMU's and then DMU back to Leyburn
Negotiations are underway with EWS to try and arrange a last minute special visitor and there is a very remote possibility of 31108 still making it to the WR but this is all still in the air.
We are all pretty much devastated by this series of events and we are hoping to make a good weekend out of a bad run of luck. Hopefully we can weather this storm and kick off next year with another event.
Thanks are due to The DPS, HNRC, A1A and EWS for their support, patience and understanding.
We would like an idea of numbers so anyone interested please contact info@dieselgala.co.uk.
Most importantly as we have missed the railway press deadlines please tell anyone you know that may be coming to the gala of the changes posted on here to spread the word.
Many thanks and I hope to see some of you at the 47 fest.
