Some interesting news reagrding Wensleydale Railway. Service to Redmire was suspended yesterday after a section of track was deemed unsafe by traincrew. After several problems with flooded level crossings the train passed Leyburn almost 45 minutes late but ran into trouble after Wensley Crossing. The ballast had started to move away from the sleepers after drains blocked and forced water over the trackbed. The loco. made an LE run over the track but it was deemed unsafe to continue. The train propelled to Leyburn where the train was curtailed until further notice. After a complicated process the DMU was able to reach Leyburn to collect passengers and, after problems with 47715, hauled steam loco. & stock back to Leeming Bar before running a limited service back to Leyburn. Plans for today, the last day of steam operation, are unclear but it was thought a service would run as far as Leyburn. Engineers were carrying out track assesment yesterday afternoon in order to determine the appropriate remedial action that should be taken.
