Wennington is a place i drive through or get the train through. Dont think i have ever got out there.
Can someone please describe or even post pix of what its like. Looks straight enough looking towards Leeds but bendy looking towards Lancaster but thats just pix on Google.
Just had a look at the map of Wennington and I wonder if someone planning the bridge replacement has flagged up the local road network might not be ideal for getting a crane or machines / bridge bits in. In particular I don't know if the bridges on the B 6480 over the river near to the railway have weight restrictions on them.
Back to Wennington - IIRC the curve is 20mph, and the only non-stopping services are the WCRC ones, not generally, so less of a problem. I presume the crossing will be at the Settle Jct. end.

I can't post a picture I've taken as I don't have any, but it's easy enough to describe. From Leeds, the line is reasonably straight on the approach, with the platforms themselves curving gently to the left when heading towards Carnforth. At the West end of the platforms is a very narrow road bridge, immediately after which the line curves more sharply to the right - the limit here is 45 mph for that reason. This was the site of the junction to Lancaster (Green Ayre). The curve continues as far as Melling tunnel, approximately 60°. The tunnel itself is ⅔ mi long and straight, the limit therethrough being 40 mph.
For trains approaching from Bentham the sighting is good; however trains from Carnforth have very poor visibility of the station until the immediate approach. I have been told by the planning department that this poor visibility is the primary reason that Wennington has not been demoted to a request stop.

Someone has done it for you! Plenty of pictures of the station on Google Aerial by NTL PWMsurvey, every few yards on both platforms. I could suggest where a foot crossing could go, only one option really.
If you look at the lay of the land via Google Streetview that would be very, very difficult to fit in. It's be easier to fit lifts at Aughton Park, and that's saying something.
If you have a look at Google Maps the Bridge is too steep, too narrow and has no pavements, so the idea of trying to sign it as the accessible route between platforms really isn't a good idea. And that's before you get to the engineering question of getting the ramp down the bank at the gradients required.
Despite my assumptions regarding Network Rail's aversion to crossings, one is apparently to be put in at Wennington, with the footbridge to be removed.
I think wires may have been crossed somewhere, as the latest update today was that ground investigations are underway to ensure a temporary footbridge can be installed.

Had a good look this morning out of the train window as we crawled past. Now it's daylight since the clocks changed. Looks like there's a TPWS transmitter grid that's been damaged. It looks like it's twisted and is non operational. I'm guessing it's not an easy fix.

It's been like that for over six months now; apparently the three minute delay to every train coming to or from the Barrow and Bentham lines costs less in compensation than it would cost to repair!

I can see how that might be. The trains tend to hang around at Lancaster/Carnforth for quite a while anyway, so three minutes can probably be absorbed.

Most trains have two minutes engineering allowance at Wennington so you’ll arrive early most of the time, and quite often end up waiting for a late Avanti.
