Is there any reason why, considering the amount that we spent rebuilding the stadium, they didn't create extra platforms or bays at the Chiltern Line station as well?

Hmm.....well, Wembley Park tube (which realistically is going to remain the principal point of access for the stadium by public transport for most people) got a very extensive rebuilding and overhaul, which must have dramatically increased its capacity, in association with the stadium rebuilding...

I suppose the main benefit of expanding Wembley Stadium station (which did get an overhaul too) might be to permit additional trains from the Birmingham direction? Although...even then there is more capacity (and a higher frequency of service) for people to travel from New Street to Euston, and then on the tube from Euston Square to Wembley Park (and that is if the train doesn't stop at the less well located Wembley Central) Probably quicker, too.

So I guess the short answer is - probably not worth it.

I suppose one might ask why didn't they do something about the football team as well....

Agreed, you also need to take into account the time factor which is likely to be about half an hour quicker even including getting the tube from Euston Sq.
Even if you were going you'd get a fast Chiltern to Marylebone, walk to Baker St and get the Met to Wembley Park which I understand to be closer too.

As an Aston Villa fan I've not had many chances to go to the new Wembley

Usually just a couple of Northampton semi-fasts, from what I've seen. I'd imagine they get wedged.

They really don't want anyone to use any station other than Wembley Park.

Well it's not working.

Coming from Gloucester I used to park at Hillingdon and go in on the Met to Wembley Park.

These days I find it easier to park at Gerrards Cross and go in via the Chiltern Line to Wembley Stadium. Judging by the amount of people queueing after most games I'm not alone!

Last night was excellent getting out, I was still in my seat at 6.30 and back in Gloucester at 8.30.

There isnt a massive need really. There is a turnback immediately beyond the down platform so trains from Marylebone can terminate in the down platform, cross over via the turnback and be in the up platform within a couple of minutes.

I'm not entirely sure what you would gain from a bay other than the ability for trains not terminating at Wembley to overtake trains which are, but you can overtake once one is in the turnback anyway. You dont need the facility to stable extra units in the station because the depot is literally a couple of hundred yards from the down platform.

It's more of an event thing to be honest and getting thousands of people out of there in one go. At present it seems that they have one platform for Marylebone and one, split in two for everywhere to the north. I'm sure it would be easier to have all of the local stoppers on one platform and the Banbury to Birmingham and beyond on another?

There is a massive, and I mean massive holding area on White Horse Bridge directly above the platforms though. Passengers are sorted into groups there and let downstairs onto the platform as their train pulls in.

On event days the entire plan is written based on the event and the predicted number of fans and directions of travel. Normally every up train will call at Wembley Stadium including the fasts, so you'd be a mug to go right on through and travel via baker street...
