Hi,

I've got a season ticket from Welwyn North to London R1256 via any permitted route. I normally use this for the fairly straightforward task of getting to the middle of London, but I've been wondering what else it entitles me to do. This has led to several hours staring at the ATOC Routeing Guide...

It appears to me that if I travel from Welwyn North to Crews Hill (the last station in Zone 6 on the Hertford line), the shortest route, and therefore valid according to the Routeing Guide, is via Stevenage.

Since I'm going via Stevenage, I can break my journey there. Or anywhere else en-route (eg, Hertford).

Is this correct? Is my ticket valid in this way, or is it actually a ticket to London Terminals, plus a travelcard to get around London?

Having broken my journey, can I turn round and go home? In other words, can I make a journey to Crews Hill via Stevenage, but actually stop short at Stevenage, and return back to Welwyn North?

Thanks

The routeing points for Welwyn North are Finsbury Park & Stevenage.
Travelling to London the appropiate routeing point is Finsbury Park (Stevenage is ruled out by the fares rule).
Therefore your ticket is valid from Welwyn North to Finsbury Park and then any valid route to London.
It is not valid via Stevenage.
It is also valid to travel to any station on the permitted route (Welwyn North - Potters Bar effectively as from Hadley Wood you are in travelcard territory))

Once Zone 6 is reached (Hadley Wood) the travelcard part is valid on all sevices that a Treavelcard is valid on.

But f I go from Welwyn North to Crews Hill, the shortest route is via Stevenage, and the fares rule doesn't apply?

But you have not got a ticket from Welwyn North to Crews Hill.

You have a ticket that is valid from Welwyn North to Hadley Wood and then throughout zones 1-6. There is adifference.

Thanks.

Out of interest, where is this documented? I couldn't find anything in the conditions of carriage about what a London all-zones ticket actually means when travelling in from outside the zonal ticket area.

The definition of an out boundary travelcard is that it is a day London Travelcard plus one return journey to the boundary of zone 6 by any permitted route.

For Reading, a travelcard is valid to the boundary on the routes to Waterloo or Paddington (IIRC West Drayton and Staines?) but not via Guildofrd.

Unfortunately, I don't know where you can find such a definition these days.
