Hi all and good afternoon, why is 47614 supposedly going to be all on its own for the return leg from Shrewsbury as far as Bristol? As far as I’m aware, 37521 and 34046 was supposed to stay on the railtour until Bristol, where they would then go back down to Bishops Lydeard (there is a schedule for it!) However, the 37 and 34046 is now apparently working Shrewsbury - Crewe HS. Could anyone give any insight as to why and why the 47 has to run the entire return leg? May disappoint some passengers onboard, too.

Isn't the steam engine just there to hitch a lift back to Crewe given the hot weather induced restrictions on steam operation?

It was always meant to be steam hauled and go back to the WSR tonight to run the same charter next week

It was yes but, like many steam charters at the moment, the heatwave has curtailed the use of steam. As the previous poster said, Braunton basically just hitched a lift back to Crewe. If it was staying on the WSR then this trip would have been entirely diesel hauled. The WSR themselves, like practically every other heritage railway, have banned all steam operations for the forseeable future and are just running diesels.

that makes sense but what about this week? It’s done it again!! Britannia is pathed on Shrewsbury - Crewe, cancelling the Bristol - Bishops Lydeard, when it’s meant to run more charters from bishops lydeard in a few weeks time… they can bring it back down but it just don’t make sense

The northbound line between Hereford Shelwick Jn and Craven Arms is currently at 1530 blocked by a ‘broken down train‘ according to NRES , the DIESEL hauled Charter Spl from Slough to Salop (with steam loco going for a trip like the punters !) left Hereford at 1200 on time and is shown at Leominster at about 1400 101 mins

We're at Ludlow and just seen the train head north through the station at speed, at around 15.45. What we can't work out is why it took almost 4 hours to get it going with three forms of motive power on the train?

a Mystery ( for the moment) indeed !
RTT shows it took 58 mins to go the approx 6 miles from Leominster to Wooferton
may not have been mechanical problems but one of these modern safety gismos now fitted, eg TPWS etc.

One bogie on the second coach had the brakes lock on causing a severe wheel flat.
Train was stopped at Leominster where the failed coach was taken out of the consist and shunted into the P'way siding.
Train was then reformed and the journey restarted late.

Ah that makes sense. No blame on any of the motive power then! Thanks for the info.
