Will it make much difference? People who have no other choice than the bus will still have to use it.

Seeing as passenger numbers haven't returned to pre covid levels, you could say the fare caps have had very little effect, and passenger numbers would have returned to current levels anyway as people forget about covid.

Many passengers use weekly or monthly tickets which are already at commercial rates, so what percentage of passengers would scrapping the scheme really effect?
NCT have stated that the increase in fare caps has had a negative effect on their patronage

The likeliness is the increased patronage came from the cheap fares, the whole point was to encourage people to use the bus and hopefully encourage a switch to public transport as a regular user and gradually increase back to commercial ticket rates

The chances are those that used the buses when the fares were lower did so because it was affordable but would never have become regular users as theres clearly an alternative for them

The taxpayer can’t foot the bill of public transport forever so a return to normal commercial fares is only going to be inevitable and its up to individual companies/operators to react to that

Last paragraph....and up their game, making them more attractive.

The taxpayer will always contribute towards bus services in one way or another.

But if we have heavy investment in £3 fares and the bus service improvement plans, and we still see passenger numbers drop, what does that say? A waste of money? Whoever is implementing the schemes doesn't really know what they are doing?

Capped fares may help in some instances, but not in others. That's why some operators opted out of the scheme. It is too much of a one size fits all approach.

Back to Trent Barton, I think they need to up their game in some areas, and get the product right - fewer cancellations, better monitoring of services to maintain even frequencies, even when faced with delays. Too many services bunch up and remain bunched. On the flip side, look at red arrow, it is busy, a success, and there is no £3 fare caps on the service.

It was interesting that for the Christmas lights switch on in Derby the council offered cheaper car parking for the day in the city centre. No discount for bus users though, no mention of them in the marketing for the event. it all paints a picture of a very disjointed approach which I'm sure is replicated in other areas too.

One for @Trainman40083 today sees 483 on the threes.

At least it features the number 3 in the fleet number
Oh no!!! SOLO! Did it last the day? I thought the Enviros were doing so well...or maybe they didn't trust a Versa. Every year, I think it will be the last for the pre SR Solos. Yet they carry on.

724 and Notts and Derby 742 have been off even longer. Could be all sorts of reasons.
Yeah I’m also wondering what has happened to 724 used to be on the my 15 and 33 all of the time

And it also looks like 67 at Notts and derby might be getting repainted

I was wondering previously if 724 was in for a refurb and a repaint, however it was mentioned where 724 was at.

Trent are spending money on refurbishing the Volvos still which is good to see, especially reading on 741 being treated for some repairs. It goes to show what you can do to 17 year old buses, the refurbished ones are looking mint!

I did wonder on what’s happening with the last TM travel Omnidekka 1174? Seems as 1400 has been in form recently looking at its data, has that had an impact on moving 1174 to Notts and Derby to join the others or is it due for withdrawal?

Something’s off here 725 has been of the road since the 3rd of December it didn’t complete all of its trip
I'll be honest I laughed at this. Buses always break down and spend time in the garage, it's a non story!

Pity nobody told that to the biogas bus I saw being towed in this morning.

It lasted from 12-6 on the 90 this morning, too on the dupe.

269 had a engine replacement about 12 or so months ago when it blew its engine on the a52 when on a red arrow service
It would be interesting to know what proportion of E200s have had to have new engines especially the number of 4 pots vs 6 pots

You would think the allestree 4 pots wouldn’t suffer too heavily in comparison to those on the nines and the indigo

I'd have thought that allestree is the perfect type of work for those buses.

I can tell you that all of the nines have had new engines.

257, 260 and 263 have had 2. 258 is on its third gearbox.

I wonder who chose the 4 cylinder E200s and if they now regret their choice!
