What about the Skylink Notts Enviros, do they accumulate mileage the same way? They're 7 years old at this point. Scary eh?

They do seem to be clocking up 93,000 miles a year. I almost wondered if it should be kilometres rather than miles.

There were plenty of Versas being used on 'The Nines' today (Saturday) I travelled on the 1140 9:3 from Derby to Mansfield and I counted at least six working in the opposite direction.

Would this mean that an equal number of E200s were unavailable for service or could it have been something to do with the football fixtures?
Both Derby County and Mansfield Town had home games today, Versas offering greater capacity perhaps?

There are 14 vehicles required for the nines & yesterday there were 5 Versas used on the nines.

It's purely down to maintenance purposes.

Roadworks are having an effect on the Nines, certainly around Kilburn and Alfreton, but I think the Versa is more reliable.

Alfreton should become a lot easier soon, Kilburn works continue until January (but they move from junction to junction.) even though the works in Kilburn have been going on for nearly a year they haven't caused too much chaos. (Until recently!)

I drove back towards Derby from Derby the other day. Breathed a sigh of relief when I got past one set of works, only to encounter the second. With a bus, you could easily get the situation where, with little recovery time, five or six trips on the trot, get ever later. As for Alfreton bus station, will we notice any improvement?

I doubt that you will see any tangible improvements at Alfreton bus station, seeing as though Matlock bus station was closed for months for no benefit to bus operators or passengers….!

Oh, I doubt it too. ..All seems a waste of money, but they get a tick in the box, for being seen to do something. I was in Derby in the rain on Tuesday. Had cause to use a bus from The Spot. The new bus shelters must have been put in by someone with a sense of humour. Fixed seats, means anyone standing is almost outside the shelter .. and the roof leaked. Electronic displays showed when it was was timetabled to arrive, not when it would arrive.

That‘s interesting considering the £2 single fare cap has now been in place for almost 2 years. Perhaps the bus companies are not doing so badly from this.

Wellglade profits might be. Trent made £432k, Barton £2.9m and Kinchbus £2.9m. Then there is the Government money to support the £2 fare. Of course the data is from 2023.

Then consider those profits are before tax. Then the Government grant is £8m + £5.9m plus £2.7m. Then there are the HP payments.

You are, indeed. When I was in business, I always reviewed profit as a percentage of turnover, what was happening with costs etc. Are they under control, or being reduced.. In fact, at the company I worked for, the directors said "If you cant find savings, you aren't looking hard enough". I can see why Kinchbus is making a profit. I can see why Barton are.. Then you have Trent. Look at the profit against revenue. So, why might It perform differently?

Yep, on the subject of railways and buses, some seem to think that no company should make any profit. If you don't why be in business? How do you invest in the future? High profits should protect against the bad years to give security.

Oh, I could believe it....Always seems busy. Of course when you look at the 2023 accounts you can see the sale of the shares held in First Leicester.. Think they were worth about £4m. Wonder why they felt the need to sell them circa October 2023? Maybe it funded the Threes Enviro 200MMCs.

I certainly think it's Kinchbus's golden egg. I am writing this from yet another rather crowded Skylink bus. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I can only see the Skylink going one way: up!

They've spent ages often running the 5, 9, 11 and 12 with fewer buses than they should allocate.

And at the same time, Arriva's 127 is a shadow of its former self, with the frequency of the core section of the route between Shepshed and Leicester running only every 20 minutes, down from every ten ten years ago. Presumably once the principal bus service between Leicester and Loughborough, having been about in some form for the past forty or so years, the 127 now finds itself at a major disadvantage to the Skylink in terms of time. So it's not surprising to see that people have voted with their feet in favour of the Skylink.

But did you notice how the cash in the bank had dropped about £9m. Maybe that was Mango App/card money, where now people just pay the £2 fare .. Effectively cash taken out of the business.

Notts and Derby accounts now posted for 2023. Looks like a profit after tax of £720k.To me, for a fleet of that size, turnover and age, it seems impressive. Well done to the Notts and Derby team .
