All this talk of buses working the X38, let us have one of my pictures of Trentbarton Volvo / Wright 726 in Derby. One of two of the batch that were all delivered as 08 plated, not to get re-registered before they entered service as 726/727 were Mango spares when delivered.

So were the 09 batch 08s when first delivered? I never knew that.

They were delivered in old style red trentbarton livery. 727 was re-painted into mango style a while after.

It was the 58-plates, the 09-plates came later
Yes, 701 to 727 were delivered as 08 plates. 701 to 725 were re-registered 58 plates, 726/727 stayed 08 plated

And in theory, someone coming from Burton is more likely to have an operator-specific ticket for Trentbarton than Arriva, given that Arriva have no other bus services in Burton-upon-Trent, whereas Trentbarton still have two others.
Plus now you can use and purchase the X38 zigzags on the Villager route and V3.

Mickleover Enviro 200MMC 106 was back in Derby today, for a MOT. It was as if it had never left.

Is that zigzag any less than the normal one valid across Trentbarton, or is it another version?

Yes and primarily allocated to route 18 (726/7) owing to the fact that route 18 was still running on Almex and not init ticket machines as there were some initial complexities with wiring for init usage. Image below of one on their very first day in service, my own image.

So you board a V1 or V3 that has come from Derby to go to Burton to change onto an X38 to go to Derby? And pay £8 instead of £4? I would suggest that's going to be a pretty niche market and if someone is minded to do that, they probably already were.

Do people think that now's the time we'll start to see regular Volvo withdrawls? Certainly Scanias were being withdrawn when they were at this age, and some of the Villager and Flyer examples haven't seen action since displacement.

As far as I'm aware there are at present plans for all of them as part of the displacement plans.

Aren't the ex Flyers going to the X38?

Or you could board an Arriva bus in many parts of Derby, get off in Derby and catch the Arriva X38 for just £3.50. Bargain.

Be one of the first upgrades to get older buses. And people claimed the Ilkeston Flyer Volvos were less reliable. Shame really, at the moment we have two bus services in the same base livery, start from stops on opposite sides of Corporation Street. The question is, is the livery currently on 720 the new X38 livery?

Yet at TM Travel, Scania 674 has just had a new MOT, being noted in Derby heading home yesterday. Minutes before Trentbarton Scania 669 had arrived on the Indigo. You can certainly tell a Scania, by that whine as they set off

Have all the Versas replaced from the threes last year been reallocated? From what I can see on bustimes there are still a few with "I'm helping out..." and others are still listed as threes. Are these just spares now that they haven't got round to repainting?

I've just been on B8RLE 780 on the my15. Does anyone know if this has happened before, since it is usually on the two.
It's only worked the My15, Two and Ilkeston Network since becoming a Mango. I assume most drivers on other services still need familiarising on the type

811 to follow very soon and 813 too.

Some Versas haven't seen action for a long time: 819, 825. Not sure if TM are in for these.

Nothing wrong with a Scania! The Volvo B7RLE has also been a very respectable purchase by the Company too.

It's a shame Wright don't body Volvos/Scania anymore. The Evora's going pretty much unrivalled at the minute, and is highly successful as a result.

I don't think people really mind. They both show the route and destination, so why'd it make a difference? You coul argue the same about the Threes and Nines in Mansfield, and people cope.

Well, the chassis is still there, so perhaps if someone wanted a substantial order for new Wright B8RLEs, they might be willing to consider making them, much in the same way Optare restarted production of the Solo SR.
In fact, it could have alternatively been Wright bodying all these B8RLEs, only when the Wright Eclipse 3 was launched everyone was going headlong after ADLs and the Volvo option was probably considered a bit of a niche one back then.

Or the i4 and Cotgrave in Nottingham.

Notts+Derby 23, 24 and 29, TM Travel 272 and Kinchbus 716 were in use at Loughborough University's open day today. If Bustimes is correct, today was also 715's first day in service with Kinchbus, on the 9.

From what I’ve heard from various rumours and sources over the years, several more operators would be using B8RLE/Wrights, but Wrightbus actively dissuaded sales of the product. Streetlites were persuaded instead being their own integral product, with the few Eclipse 3s built coming at a hefty premium. I’d argue it’s safe to say Wrights have ended their historically longstanding relationship with Volvo now, diesel buses won’t be sold for too much longer, Volvo have a good relationship with MCV now for UK buses, and Wrights have their own integral products.

Another thing to consider is Optare/Switch have struggled for sales in recent years, so will have welcomed a large order for Solos. Wrights on the other hand are at capacity with already long lead times for new orders.

Maybe the relationship between Wright and Volvo became more strained when Wright built their Streetdeck (if that is the right name for the integral double decker).. I guess Optare /Switch have concentrated on the London market. Nothing quite matched the Solo in that sector. No surprise the need for more, came up.

So basically its a Zigzag that costs less but its intended purpose is for people want to travel all day (Between derby and burton) and be able to get back to Burton when the X38s have finshed for the day. Belive it or not now people know they are quite popular.

Red arrow today seemed to be struggling. There seemed to be an issue on the A52 towards Nottingham, a load of Uni open days (Nottingham) and Upper Parliament Street's roundabout is part closed. Certainly not ideal, the amount of traffic they created! Plenty was on it today, with even ex-H1 X38 branded Volvo 726 being drafted onto the route for two trips after about half past 2 today! Provided is a picture (mine) proving that it indeed was running and not mistracking!

Yes there is also a similar ticket on the threes/connect which allows unlimited travel between Hucknall Estates and Nottingham, there's a daily and a weekly version of them & both are popular.
