Why would the normally excellent fastjp (a) suggest going anywhere else overnight, if you miss the last train from Oxford to Radley on a Saturday evening; (b)choose Kingham in particular?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. A patch is being prepared right now and will go live after we finish testing.

(a) there can be cases where there's a circuitous (long) route that could get you home sooner that we are able to calculate the fare for. The default filtering is currently optimised to show the departure closest to the time specified that isn't overtaken by another itinerary (earliest arrival).

(b) I quite liked Kingham as a station during my brief visit :) (unfortunately/fortunately my opinion on stations doesn't affect the weighting).

It'll be a combination of station interchange status, distance and fares.

Thanks for quick response (when I emailed you). But (obviously) after a night at Kingham, I wouldn't get home any sooner than if I stayed in Oxford and got on, at Oxford, the suggested train from Kingham to Radley on Sunday morning. And (also obviously) there aren't any fares from Oxford to Radley via Kingham. Moreover, it would be an easier 'interchange' if I spent the night at Hanborough, because Hanborough has only one platform! (And a friendly hotel nearby that is likely to be cheaper than most options in Oxford.)

Kingham passes the fares filter as our fares system managed to calculate a split for it. If you change the Search Type I believe the preferred option of a night at the Hanborough bench shows up. But indeed it makes no sense to offer either as you'll be going back through Oxford on the first train the next morning. Hopefully the bug should be squashed by tomorrow afternoon.

Don't quite get that. Anyone can calculate a split for anywhere, surely? eg Oxford > Corrour > Radley ? Though I presume that would fail an 'arrival time at Radley rather disappointing' test ?
