To clarify for anyone who's not quite sure what island is asking...

The annual fares change for TfL (as for NR) takes effect on Sunday 5 March this year.

When using a contactless card or device for travel in London (and beyond), you can benefit from weekly capping - the window for which runs Monday-Sunday.

As to what the answer is, I don't know!

It's interesting because when the fares changed in early January there must have been very few people who reached the weekly cap during Christmas/New Year week.

Now the fare change is during normal working / school / university time the impact is much greater.

If the fares change is on the last possible day for capping it seems equally unlikely that anyone will hit the cap only on the last day, in which case the cap should be at the lower pre-increase rate.

I understand your point, but I think it rather underestimates the vast variety of travel patterns that exist in a metropolis of nigh on 9 million people.

However I'd imagine the majority who hit a weekly cap will reach it before Sunday and so should benefit from the pre-increase level, but there will be a minority who only hit the weekly cap on the Sunday and so it'll be at the higher post-increase level.

The answer suggests that existing caps will apply all week and new ones will start on Monday:

I’ve checked and the weekly caps start at the new rate from 07/03/2022. This week they will be at the 2021 rate even if you don’t start using them before tomorrow.

It needs to be read in the context of the comment I replied to.

Read this thread late last night but didn’t post at the time, was going to suggest that anyone who had hit the old cap by Saturday and then travelled on Sunday would just get an extra charge of the difference between old and new, assuming they travelled enough on Sunday to hit the new one, but looking at further replies since I read it last night, maybe not.

Just had confirmation from TfL. 2022 weekly caps apply this week, 2023 start on Monday.
