Weekend in Bavaria- advice request

As the title says, got a couple of nights in Munich coming up soon looking for 110, 218 or any other interesting hauled stuff to bash with a lander ticket on the friday and saturday.

Are there still 614 units working down there?

Beer/ good pub advice is of course also most welcome

Lander tickets are only valid on regional trains, there are a number of services to the southwest of Munich which are diesel hauled, the rest are electric. Most of the single deck regional coaches are rather old, the double deckers are newer. The exception to this is the Nuremburg Express which uses repainted IC stock and does up to 200 kph north of Ingolstadt and the new 'Fugger Express' EMUs which go to Augsburg. The Fugger Express trains look a lot like s-bahns. There are also a number of DMU services but most do not originate in Munich

You could also try the ALEX (Arriva) trains in the direction of Hof or Lindau, these are electric hauled and use refurbed compartment stock. There is also the BOB to Lenggries, Tegernsee & Bayerischzell, these use unique DMUs.

There's a tiny brewpub in the main street in Muehldorf, too. You might need a reservation to get a seat, though, unless you hit it early. The food's not bad either.

The train I took to get there from Munich ran non-stop and was double deck stock, top + tailed by 218s.

something else to look out for, not that I've been on one, but DB seem short of double decker stock and it is not uncommon to see regional trains composed of both double and single decker coaches

Those BOB units certainly look unusual machines!

May use the alex service to get up to Plzen later on in the week, any idea what hauls them over the non electrified section through Furth im Wald? Will they accept lander tickets too?

Bayern Tickets can be used as far as the Czech border. There is also the Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket which is valid as far as Plzen, same conditions as Bayern Ticket, but a bit more expensive.

No idea what hauls them east of Furth, as I've only ever gone as far as Regensburg.

BTW. The buffet car (and the front half of the train from Munich) only go as far as Regensburg, the rear four coaches continue to Czech Republic.

The Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket costs €33 for up to 5 people or €23 for one
