OK, so Im still in the middle of planning a 2 week First Class All Line Rover for next March.
On my previous 3 ALRs, I havent done much travelling on weekends, but this year Im intending to.

Im aware that FGW tend not to have at seat service in First Class at weekends, and you have to collect freebies from the buffet. But what do other long distance companies do at weekends? Im especially interested in Grand Central, Virgin, East Coast, XC and East Midlands. Anybody know if they have at seat trolley service, or will I have to spend ages walking through the train to the buffet car and then queueing up?

For east coast take a look at the timetable. Very minimum you get is the trolley. Some services have at seat dinning which are highlighted on the timetable. Like all east coast services just tea / coffee etc free not food. (unless you class the biscuits as food). After may all bets are off!

Virgin Pendolino services (to/from London only) you will be served once at-seat with free tea, coffee, crisps, biscuits and occasionally apples (you will be served twice if going north of Carlisle), you have to go to the Shop for anything on EVERY Voyager service (regardless of origin) and all Pendolino services not going to/from Euston... I think EMT do have an at-seat weekend service, but I think you have you pay for everything (a lot like EC), generally though, there is quite a lot of stuff on the relevant websites :D Hope this helps!

I know that Wrexham & Shropshire still offers passengers holding FC tickets (excluding Weekend First) a fully cooked 2-course meal on every service they run. I think it's very good that they do this, and that other TOCs should follow suit- i.e. offer the same FC food/drink every day, not just weekdays.

Virgin- I'm not 100% sure, but have a feeling that they don't provide a CSA for First Class at-seat service on weekends/bank holidays, although it's thankfully just a coach away from the shop. Pendolinos- I'm again not certain on where the at-seat is offered, but: Tea, Coffee, Crisps, Fruit, Water i think is the weekend offer.
