Is it me, or has the frequency of line closures at the weekend increased over the past few years? It seems every weekend there’s sweeping blockades across the system. Here in South London it’s more of a pleasant surprise when my local lines are running normally on a weekend. It is very disheartening and honestly, is another incentive to learn how to drive. I know some people will defend them, but as a passenger, they’re past infuriating, they’re just depressing. My questions are:
Why is so much constant work necessary?
Is there any way to make the work more efficient to avoid frequent closures?
How does our weekend engineering work compare to other countries?
To what extent does frequent weekend line closures impact overall economic performance?
