Website hosting options

Does anyone have any suggestions for website hosting? I have recently purchased a domain via GoDaddy (as they appear to be on of the few that host .racing domains), but they have annoyed me with their website hosting prices and charging me over £50 more than their January deals site says. So after getting nowhere with their support desk, I have cancelled the website hosting plan with them and am now looking to host the website somewhere else. The website is planned to be a very basic website that shows details of a person, gallery images, event calendar, and links to social media such as Facebook, Instagram and Youtube so nothing that should warrant a significant cost. "Back in the day" I would have hosted this on my Blueyonder webspace but even VirginMedia do not offer webspace anymore.

As usual, Google is full of opinions with Wix, InfinityFree, Wordpress etc... as options, but if anyone has any opinions they would be greatly received

I’m currently looking at SquareSpace which was recommended to me. I’m planning to sell prints online and I believe hosting a suitable site kicks off at £28 per month. I think there are cheaper options too though, especially for non business sites. I also believe they do free (for a year) domain names. However, whatever web literacy I once had seems to have evaporated leaving behind a fluffy haze of iNeptitude, so see for yourself if it fits what you’re looking for.

I’ve been happy with one.com for the past few years. They have various tiers. Think I pay about £60 a year for two domains and hosting.

Professionally, I use Krystal with a couple of companies I work with, having been recommended them over 10 years ago. A friend of mine I believe uses them from my recommendation

The cheaper options (still perfectly good) aren’t badly priced and everything, support included, is UK based

A small charity I do some work for has used LCN (based in Worcester I think) for its website for a while. I haven't needed support from LCN, but I understand that they've been very easy to contact and helpful with technical support in the past. About £60 a year I think for basic hosting.

I use Host Presto, costs me 3.60 a month, my needs are minimal though so you may need a higher tier but the price isn't that much higher.

I hand write my HTML/CSS so i don't know if thats your bag or not, but i find Host Presto excellent.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Wix - easy to put up a simple marketing/landing page site for my wife's small business. Decent price when paying for 3 years upfront. The domain is with Google for £10/year and email with Namecheap for £12/year - much cheaper than taking the Google business package pushed by Wix.

If you're happy doing stuff yourself (e.g. installing Apache/Nginx and WordPress/Joomla) then consider a cheap VPS rather than a hosting package. The smallest option with Ionos for example is £1/month for six months and £16/month after that.

More expensive than a hosting package, but you can use the server for other things - I use mine as a VPN endpoint, for example.

Edit: Actually, I missed an option on the page. The absolute cheapest option is £1/month with no price increase. Though it's a little underpowered for a site that would receive a lot of visitors. You'd want to go at least one step up to the £2/month for six months £5/month after.
