I think there was a tree down near Liskeard, and one down between Bath and Bristol too. What is going on with the weather?? It's June!

Crap Junes seem to be becoming the norm for the south of England. June last year was the dullest on record for the SE, with some places receiving less than half the sunshine of the Shetland islands.

It is typical UK weather. You spend eight months of the year dealing with the grotty damp cloudfest of autumn, winter and early spring, looking forward to the long lazy warm sunny days of summer, and when summer finally arrives it turns into a big letdown. Then it is back to the grey grot, lather, rinse, repeat.

Services from Aberdeen to Inverness will terminate at Forres and services from Inverness to Aberdeen will terminate at Keith.

By my reckoning, this means that the services are overlapping!

Mine too. I believe the Northeast/Far North of Scotland are getting it today, windy but dry in Edinburgh with drains obviously struggling to handle the run off of 2 days heavy rain as various roads shut in East Lothian today as well as the Westen end of the Trams.

Is it bad to be surprised that the wires didn't come down on the ECML during the weather yesterday?

Not quite sure if weather related, but Wires damaged between Cardonald and Glasgow Central, no trains from Glasgow Central to Paisley Gilmour Street / Paisley Canal at moment (http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/164755.aspx)

Thank you for pointing out the bleeding obvious. It wasn't meant to be a rigorious scientific analysis of the UK climate over the last 20 years:roll:. It was more of a facetious comment that poor starts to summer seem to have happened quite frequently since about 2007, e.g. 2007, 2012, 2016 and possibly 2017 if we have actually changed weather regime. There is some evidence that summer blocking over Greenland, which results in a southerly displaced jet stream (directing low pressure systems over the UK rather than to the NW), or puts the UK under a persistent upper-level trough, bringing several weeks of cool wet conditions, has become more frequent since 2007. As this is not a meteorology forum I'll refrain from uploading images which illustrate this.

I believe there was also a tree down on the London Waterloo to London Waterloo route but I can't remember where.

There was one at Teddington.

Can't say for certain if that was the case, but judging from the way the panto has been pulled backwards, I'd say that it had definitely had been coming from the Paisley direction when the damage occurred.

OLE down between Wilmslow and Manchester Airport. Northern's Crewe services diverted via Stockport, with replacement buses between Wilmslow and the Airport.

There have been freight diversions via Stockport for a couple of weeks now, presumably due to a different infrastructure problem.

Always happy to help!:roll: I didn't read it as facetious; just a grumble. I'm just looking forward to the Gulf Stream subsiding so we have the potential for some proper snow in winters to come! As you say, though, best directed through a Meteorological forum.

I was on the 10:34 from Crewe to Manchester this morning, diverted due to the OLE problems. I was looking forward to going through Stockport non-stop, I've never done that before. Are there any normal services that go through without stopping?

Unfortunately there has been a fatality between Stockport and Manchester, so after over an hour waiting at Alderley Edge they've sent the Wilmslow replacement coach to pick us up and take us to the airport.
Northern staff on the train have been good keeping people informed, arranging taxis for people with planes to catch, etc.

The 0748-ish from Buxton runs fast from Hazel Grove to Manchester Piccadilly, I believe. Often see it chug through at Stockport whilst waiting for a southbound train.

And off (in Scotland at least) we go again. Been persisting it down from the south to the central belt and on northwards since just after rush hour.
With a whole months rain in 2 days according to the met just behind us things are still pritty soggy so we could now see some of the more common problems developing, I think we were maybe saved from these by the ground being so dry up until the start of the week.

Oh wow. I am surprised then it want mentioned in advance but then the water can even surprise those doing the planning. Unpredictable weather in the UK isn't uncommon.

Does anyone know what the problem at Wilmslow actually is? Trains still can't run south from Manchester airport 3 days later.
