Weather related problems (6th June 2017)

Current problems:

Delays of over an hour to XC services in the South West and some services truncated.

Overhead wire problems in Levenshulme area causing disruption to many services.

Fallen tree in Mobberley area. Trains have been at a standstill for over an hour on the Mid-Cheshire line.

Delays of up to 40 minutes to Buxton line services due to a fallen tree earlier.

Delays of up to 25 minutes to Manchester to London services due to 'earlier obstruction.' I'm not sure where or what that was.

I've heard rumours of an trampoline being struck by a Class 221 Virgin service just north of Leighton Buzzard around 3pm

This morning I was on the 10:21 service from Hunts Cross to Southport, for Liverpool Central, when it came to a halt at Liverpool South Parkway in platform 6. The guard then announced that there was a tree across the line further north than LSP and they didn't know when the obstruction would be cleared. With that most of the pax got off the train and like me they made their way to platform 2 to catch a train to Liverpool Lime Street.

Trees down at Penshurst, Ham Street, Thornton Heath-Selhurst, the Sydenham Spur and more... at various points through the day, mainly around the end of the morning peak.

I think there was a tree down near Liskeard, and one down between Bath and Bristol too. What is going on with the weather?? It's June!

Fortunately it must have been cleared within the hour because I caught the 11.36.

I believe there was also a tree down on the London Waterloo to London Waterloo route but I can't remember where.

Incidentally Southern reported possible disruption this morning but South West Trains didn't. Does this mean they had been expecting the disruption to be worse in the area Southern cover.

As it is, I know of three trees down on South West Trains lines.

Also the 6.53 was late into Guildford this morning due to slippery rails! If we get lots more of this in future years, perhaps we'll be needing a slippery rails timetable for June! Still it's only coming towards summer.

Notable absense of my FB and Google feeds filling up with flooding reports north of the border which is amazing as its not stopped since last night. I had fully expected the HML, Parts of the WHL and the ECML between Dunbar and Berwick to have fallen over and hoped that after all the work a couple years back Winchburgh tunnel wouldn't flood. As it is I heard nothing.

Indeed, taking a quick glance at the Scotrail website shows no disruption anywhere on the network. Let's hope it stays that way lol

Tent reported on the line at South Kenton and a trampoline at Leighton Buzzard. Yesterday that is.

Nothing (to me) beats the cockle shed on the tracks at Leigh on Sea in the 1987 hurricane.

And the cockles?

Anyway, I heard about the tree between Woking and Guildford, but looking at OTT maps there was a block written in on the up signalling berth but not the down of the Up between Worplesdon and the Guildford Junction, nothing seen on the Down at all.
