Hi there, I am a Station Manager with GTR; I've got some old British Rail gear and more coming at Christmas, this is just shirts & ties; is it ok to wear with my normal formal attire?

Your boss may take a dim view of it. As a manager yourself you should be setting an example, especially if you are in a public facing role.

This is a question for your line manager, surely.

Not really. GTR will have a uniform standard / policy, and staff will be expected to follow that - especially station staff who are directly visible to passengers. That said, people do occasionally manage to sneak the odd old item in, and providing it’s done in a smart way then you might get away with it. Drivers can and do get away with more.

Perhaps not quite the same, but I have seen Great Northern platform staff wearing WAGN branded high vis vests on a few occasions.

Whether it's a 'good idea' or not, whether it's 'not harming anyone' or not [1], if you have a uniformed role your employer expects you to wear the official uniform.

[1] I know you didn't make these exact claims

Perhaps wear it only on a suitable occasion.

25 years since Connex lost the franchise, for example :)

I would not advise it. For the reason, that you might meet a passenger. Possibly, an ex rail employee. Who is a Walter Mitty hater, and would assume that you are a fake.

Probably not, at least in public, though some managers may use discretion. Office work would be a different matter.

I know someone who was given a ticking off for wearing a Railtrack shirt, his usual office attire, several years into Network Rail, while in public view. The ticking off ceased when the long line of JJA ballast wagons in the station, all with RAILTRACK proudly emblazoned on the side, was pointed out!
