I was reading a article this morning where Germans where comparing the railways to British railways, and was actually saying on average British trains are far more punctual than German trains.

On average services in Germany would normally arrive 10 or more minutes late.

Is there any truth in this? I mean I seem to be lucky in my area. Using southeastern the trains are usually on time with exception to the peak periods where things might go a bit pear shaped. And obviously the closer you get to London on some, not all southeastern routes trains will start to run a bit off schedule. Usually owing to faults on the network here and there.

I would like to know what people have got to say about the service of other regions/operators?

Yes, at the moment DB's punctuality is appalling, fewer than 50% of trains are within 15 minutes of time on some days. The UK is bad at the moment but not even nearly that bad.

While our Government isn't helping, most Western European countries are suffering the same sorts of general societal issues at present, which isn't massively surprising as we've all suffered the same economic pressures over the past few years e.g. COVID and vast influx of refugees from the Ukraine war etc.

You might want to take a look at this (fairly substantial) thread, where fellow travellers have documented their (mainly negative) recent experiences of German railways:

German Rail in Decline?

Also just a gentle reminder, for future reference, of the following, from our forum rules:
  • If referring to an external text-based source, you should put a suitable section of the text in QUOTE tags and provide, as appropriate, details of the source and a relevant comment to promote discussion.
  • New threads should be given appropriate, descriptive titles and subsequent posts should remain relevant to the original topic.

Thanks :)
