Afternoon everyone,

Just having a debate with a friend and I’m curious for the opinion of others.

His opinion was Carnforth was basically a sophisticated ‘recycling’ yard of steam trains. Very rarely do we get updates on anything and everything is hush hush. He used the example of 2 black fives which were very popular on the NYMR and SVR and if there’s any intention to run them or if they are being used as spares for the Jacobite trains.

My argument was they are probably timing the restoration for when the 45407 and 44871 are withdrawn.

Curious for the thoughts of everyone else?

These are not 'Carnforth' engines, but owned by Ian Riley, and based on the East Lancashire Railway when not at Fort William. It would appear likely that they will be overhauled by their owner when the time comes, independent of what is happening at Carnforth.

As you say, there isn't much indication of when 44767 and 45110 may reappear, or for what purpose. 44932 doesn't appear to have been fitted with air brakes for Jacobite use.

Sorry that’s not what I meant. It’s not a question of who their owner is.

It’s more WCRC timing their restorations to coincide with the withdrawals of the Ian Riley pair
