Trouble is for most of the day you do not need all that 1st capacity but on certain peak services you really do. I work on NXEA & although off-peak these 2 coaches only have a dozen or so passengers, up until the 10.24 arrival into Liverpool St & departures 15.00-19.30 these trains can be very very busy. Remember the difference between a £8 standard advance single & a £81 first single & with a much heavier premier clientele on the WCML i can see the benefit for the TOC.

To have a hybrid fleet would be a nightmare to diagram.

Can understand it on morning & evening services, but I got on this super-voyager early afternoon at Crewe, now I usually pride myself in using the railway info, like car stop signs & info on the dot matrix, so I thought I was at the right end (away from 1st). But no, 1st was at both ends of a 5 car! Luckily they were declassifying the coach I boarded.

I think if you want to offer substantial first class then maybe stop all seat reservations in standard (sit anywhere), but 1st passengers get free seat reservation with their ticket. It would certainly streamline things without people pacing up & down then arguing over seats. Imo, if they feel THAT important they should be encouraged to be in 1st anyway

Edit: & ofcourse someone needs to rethink 1st fares. It's not the royal train FFS!

What voyager was it as I have NEVER seen one with 1st class at each end?

A Virgin voyager does sometimes have a second 1st class coach but this is the one next to the fixed end one and can be declassifed or not depending on what service its on.

So if doing Glasgow-Wigan on that service where do you change then?

If relief is in from Carlisle-Lancaster, one assumes that you change at Preston - hope it is same platform!

A simple change at Preston, but then again Wigan is very lucky to have such an excellent service to Scotland with the hourly Birmingham-Glasgow/Edinburgh & most other Euston-Glasgow Pendolinos calling aswell.

The Virgin 221s have had the shop coach reversed and repositioned next to the First Class with its seating area able to be used as additional First when needed on the North Wales services.

AIUI some extra tables were put in, and the shop forms the boundary between First and Standard when necessary.

Aye must have been that, I think the electronic info board was wrong, hence I moved up the platform to avoid it!

The 06:52 from Crewe (from Lancaster/Holyhead) and the 17:10 / 18:10 from Euston (to Chester/Holyhead) are formed of 2 x Super Voyagers. As such, there are 2 First Class carriages at either end of the train (usually the rear coach of each train but can vary).

Sorry to bump this thread, does anyone know what diagrams Pendos do on the BHM - GLC/EDB runs?

Thanks in advance,

The 06:17 Birmingham - Edinburgh / 10:52 Edinburgh - Euston (forms 14:45 off Wolverhampton).

The 08:43 Euston - Edinburgh (10:19 off New St) / 14:52 Edinburgh - euston (forms 18:45 off Wolverhampton).

Unsure if any Birmingham - Glasgows are Pendolinos.

A friend travelled on the 10:19 service on Monday and apparently it was full and standing north of Crewe throughout, so overcorwded in fact that the Shop had to be closed for health and safety along with several minutes dwell time at stations for customers to alight and board. In contrast, First was not busy.

Does anyone have a list of which Birmingham - Eustons and reverse are operated by Super Voyagers as a result (e.g. the 08:03 from Euston)? Just so I can be sure to avoid them at all costs...
