OHL energisation WCML

Crewe-Manchester: Late 1950s
London-Birmingham-Liverpool: Mid-late 60s
North of Weaver Junction-Glasgow: Early 70s
Some of the Glasgow area was wired in the 60s for local commuter trains
Carstairs to Edinburgh late 80s.

anyway, another signal failure today

Train services between Milton Keynes and Northampton are being disrupted due to signalling problems.

Cancellations and alterations and delays of up to 50 minutes can be expected.

A limited service is in operation between Rugby and Northampton and between Milton Keynes Central and Northampton.

Only Virgin Train services via Northampton will be affected by this disruption.

There is currently no estimate for a normal service to resume

Sigh, how many £billions have been spent on the WCML 'upgrade' again?

I guess some would say that it was good that today's problems were largely only affecting the Northampton loop rather than the Southern WCML as a whole. LM were replaced by buses for some time but just an hour or two after their services resumed running to/from Northampton (albeit with some lengthy residual delays and cancellations due to crew and stock misplacement), a LM service went and struck some objects placed on the line by vandals in the Coventry area! Thankfully the latter didn't result in too many further delays to services though.

Well I suspect it's to do with the old kit as it's been pointed out (we hope). Not good though, several leading politicians, including David Cameron, has been delayed several times in these fiascos. It hardly gives confidence in the system.

Sabotage blamed for rail delay

A sabotaged signalbox led to a second successive day of rail misery for passengers trying to get in or out of Northampton.

Commuters were forced to swap trains for a fleet of standby buses after vandals took an axe to a signalbox in the Northampton area in an attempt to steal cables.

You'd think some people have it in for the WCML!
