VT West Coast would rather bus than divert via the S&C by all indications, i.e. not route refreshing that way any more.

that's as maybe - however the research, via Passenger Focus ( i think), shows people want to stay on a train rather than use a bus.

Work on the railway at carlisle has gone well today in good weather. The defences DID collapse next to the railway, I saw this myself and have the photos. The story that the water came 'over the top' of the defences is not entirely true.

Anyway, we've got power now but no heat nor satellite TV so better off than many.

Replacement buses. The solution would have been to run trains to Carlisle, but run buses from Penrith to. (Lockerbie) Glasgow and Edinburgh. Penrith has a spare platform trains could still run on to carlisle - and the buses have to go only 600 yards to get to the m6 north and can bypass carlisle and onto the m74 - motorway all the way to Glasgow. Traffic is stunningly difficult in carlisle due to road closures.

Thanks for moral support from many.

That's as maybe, but there are times when rrc can be just as good as the train. I accept that carrying heavy luggage or if individuals find interchanging stessful, then rrc/rrb isn't ideal, but sometimes it can be OK.

Way down south, but the rrc from Southampton airport to Bournemouth (coach) isn't really a big deal and doesn't add to the overall journey time as it doesn't stop en route, while a Southampton or Brockenhurst to Bournemouth cold single decker bus is painful.

I don't disagree but when offered a simple an un nuanced question the vast majority of passengers indicated they wanted to stay on the train. The TOC's undertook to offer more diversion routes. Whether they do or not i couldn't say.
