There appeared to be a little congestion and disruption for a short while this morning. 6M13 was held at signals on the down fast - he was given the DS and off they went, but following came in a test train of 2 x 703s and two northbound Pendolinos which were held for around 20 minutes. At this time there were no southbound trains either. One of the drivers I spoke to said there may have been an incident with a bridge. In any case, it suddenly seemed to get back to normal without any other issues. Quite odd.

Sounds to me from what you’ve said that there was a bridge bash that needed inspecting, hence the hold of around 20 minutes, once inspected nothing amiss found and normal working resumed. Sure somebody will give the real details but what it sounds like is a normal reaction to such incident!

Yes, I thought that the bridge must have been fine. It seems odd without detail. I understand last week, the WCML was pretty hard going on one day. And a bridge bash at Berkswell made it worse!

Got it in 1! An overbridge just north of Nuneaton was hit, the Down (northbound) side was fine, but some brickwork had been knocked down into the Up side cess, so the Up Slow was avoided while staff got the bricks clear of the line.

Now a failed freight train between Penrith & Oxenholme is causing serious southbound WCML delays
