I'm interested to learn what locos still run on the WCML particularly freight.

I assume most diesel hailed freight is hauled by Class 66.

Do Class 68 or Class 70's haul anything ?

As far as electric hauled freight. What hauls these. Class 86 ? Class 90 or Class 92 ?

I'm not too interested in specifics of what hauls what - just a general overview.

Plenty of 66s as you'd expect.

70s operate several intermodal and heavy haul trains to and from Crewe and Trafford Park, amongst there places.

68s are being used on network services for NR (from what I've seen), eg: ballast trains, CWR etc

92s operate intermodal from Trafford Park, Crewe and elsewhere to Wembley and beyond towards the Channel Tunnel.

90s do similar to the 92s. 90s also haul the Sleeper through the night across the full length of WCML (although that will soon become 92s).

Freightliner have a couple of doubled-headed 86s each day hauling intermodal between Trafford Park and the south east etc.

Much more infrequent and 'rare' locos would be 37s on flasks, 57s on ballast (or running light) etc.

Can't think of any more?

Thanks for that. Most variety seems to be going south.

Do the 90's, 92's 70's etc head north of say Warrington ?

Yes, regularly.

You also get DRS 47's, 57's and 20's on the WCML which haven't been mentioned.

I've also seen Colas 56's.

And there are also Class 60s on (mostly) short sections of the WCML.
1. Warrington to Winwick Jn (Liverpool Bulk Terminal - Fiddlers Ferry coal)
2. Farington Curve Jn - Preston. (Lindsey - Preston Docks tanks)
3. Peak Forest - Bletchley stone -- sometimes a Class 60, but often a 66.
