I suspect it's this

Route(s) affected

Avanti West Coast between London Euston and Wrexham / Crewe / Liverpool Lime Street / Manchester Picadilly / Preston / Edinburgh / Glasgow Central, and between Birmingham New Street and Glasgow Central, and between Crewe and Chester

London Northwestern Railway between London Euston and Crewe, and between Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street, and between Crewe and Stafford, and between Coventry and Liverpool Lime Street

Description

A fault with the signalling system at Crewe means that some lines are blocked. As a result, some trains running through this station may be delayed by up to 80 minutes or diverted.

Disruption is expected until 22:30.

On 1M18 home currently sat at Preston any idea what’s happening?
That's the late running 17:30 departure from Glasgow Central (for London Euston)? Believe there was a fault on the train. And, as @dodecahedron67 mentions, there's also now the signalling problem at Crewe. Hope you don't get cancelled South of Preston!

Any possibility that it might be re-routed via Manchester Picc?

Got to Euston eventually, just under 2 hrs late.

Same happened to me. Booked on 1M18 (20:44) from Crewe, where I was arriving from Knucklas. Communication was shocking at Crewe, even after telling them that there's been trains stuck at Warrington and Wigan for over 90 minutes, they were still telling me they don't know what the issue is.

I got to Euston eventually on the very delayed 20:23 departure, which itself had an extra call at Nuneaton, a full restart there due to a fault delaying us again, and was stuck behind stopping services due to the 'two-track railway' south of Milton Keynes. Eventually got home at 01:30 instead of 23:30.

Missed the last thameslink back to Brighton from STP so got a £30 cab from EUS to VIC to try and catch 0108 train (which was actually only going to Three Bridges). Missed that so got the 0208 to TBD only to be informed that the RRB to Brighton was for another hour. Another £70 odd in a an uber back home :frown:

Why didn't you get the night tube from Euston to Victoria out of curiosity?

It was open for me at 00:30 for the Victoria line. Did you go outside of Euston mainline station and double back to get inside the Underground station?
yes went outside, this was later at as 1M18 didn't arrive at EUS til 0048
